The latest aviation SD "Monolith" is ready for state tests

The latest high-precision controlled aviation the Monolith missile of 122 mm caliber, developed as part of the creation of the S-80FP Armor-piercer missile, is fully ready for state tests. This was announced by the general director of the concern "Techmash" Vladimir Lepin.

Lepin explained that work on the high-precision guided missile "Monolith" of the "air-to-ground" class is being carried out according to the schedule, today the missile is ready for state tests. He refused to talk about the details of the development, saying that the project was closed.

The work is underway. It’s too early to detail. This is a closed project. I will say that we are ready to move to the stage of state testing

- TASS quotes the words of the CEO of Techmash.

Earlier in an interview with Zvezda television channel, Lepin said that Monolith is the latest high-precision guided missile of the 122 mm caliber, which in the future should replace the unguided C-13 missile of the same caliber. The work is carried out within the framework of the project for the creation of the S-80FP Armor-piercer rocket of the 80 mm caliber.

The rocket carrier will be all planes or helicopters capable of using the C-13 unguided rocket of the 122-mm caliber, developed back in the 70 of the last century and more than once modernized. The new missile is guided, that is, there is already a different complex. There will be a finalization of control systems weapons aircraft carrier specific carrier

- explained earlier in Techmash, adding that the cost of "Monolith" will not be more expensive than C-13.

Since the "Monolith" is essentially an enlarged version of the "Armor Striker", it is assumed that the missiles will have similar characteristics, taking into account the adjustment for caliber. It was previously reported that the Armor-striker fuse allows the missile to explode not only upon contact with the target (obstacle), but also in front of it and even behind it, "breaking through it and not collapsing to undermine."

Well, the performance characteristics of the Su-57 are probably better covered, but we are discussing it. And here is the replacement of the main NURS of attack aircraft with URS. Tidbit theme

Well, how to discuss a closed project?

Well, why not discuss? 80-mm "Armor-piercer" - unguided missile (NARS) ... About "Monolith" ... there was a statement in the first messages that "Monolith" will be produced in 2 versions: guided and unguided ... Judging by the fact that that both "Armor-piercer" and "Monolith" are being developed within the framework of one project, it can be assumed that these two "products" can "combine": a warhead type (high-explosive fragmentation penetrating ...) and a programmable fuse ... guidance "Monolith", but it can be assumed that it will most likely be a semi-active laser seeker ...
By the way, the "idea" of a guided 122-mm aircraft missile is by no means the first attempt! You can recall the "Threat" project, in which it was "proposed" 3 missiles with a semi-active laser seeker and pulse correction with a caliber of 57 mm, 80 mm, 122 mm ... I also met a mention of the existence of a project, where NARs were supposed to have a caliber of 122 mm and above equip with correction modules, including a laser seeker and a power drive with rudders ...

I wonder how a guided missile can pierce through and through a tank with reactive armor and explode behind the tank, or is it so-called "translation difficulties" from colloquial to ordinary Russian? ????

Rather, the difficulty of understanding. The article says "target", not a tank. And the article is not to blame that you have reduced all the variety of targets hit by such a missile to tanks

Andrei from Chelyabinsk - after all, the caliber is 122 mm, this is an occasion to think about whether you will hit the arb with such a missile or spend it on a more protected target!

Well, the article explicitly states that the rocket will go to replace the S-13 nurses. And her goals are manpower, located openly, unarmored and lightly armored vehicles (as I understand all sorts of bets) and, in the penetrating version, field fortifications and firing points

something it seems to me that it is very unlikely to be replaced by the NURS, but as an addition, it may well be .. the NURS has its own task, the URS has its own ..

But I don’t think so. CEO of Techmash - too. So you are in the minority :))))
But more seriously, the NURS, or rather, the NAR will have an advantage in defeating area targets, but this is a rather narrow specificity, because even the same convoy will be easier to destroy precisely controlled nurses - provided that they are comparable in cost. As for the defeat of the same bunker, the NAR will no longer have preference, there it is necessary to use up several missiles so that there is a chance to get at least one, but here ....

Nikolaevich, I just thought that the caliber of 122 mm is for armored vehicles such as a tank, and not for firing at a truck!

For starters, look at a set of S-13 rockets. There is not one designed to destroy armored vehicles:
          C-13 penetrating
          S-13OF - high-explosive fragmentation
          S-13D - volume-determining
          S-13DF - high-explosive with a volumetaning mixture
C-13T - penetrating with high-explosive fragmentation over the obstacle

Not all targets are tanks. In addition to tanks, it is still necessary to hit targets located in engineering fortifications or inside buildings.

NAR has been developing for a long time, Americans, Europeans, Koreans, Turks
The idea seems to be simple - reduce warheads, put on the vacant spot GOS, get a cheaper option than the Ptur, for simple purposes
But with the implementation of a cheap and effective DOS complexity
In a simple version, they make a laser semi-active, more complicated matrix IR
    And here it’s not clear
The fact that you are transmitting a picture does not in itself say that the ghos is television

All modified NURSs use a semi-active laser seeker. Most of all, the Americans were confused with their APKWS II, where the issue of finalizing the existing NURS with the help of the correction module was solved and the problem of the impact on the seeker of the exhaust jet from missiles launched earlier was solved.

. March 2012, Hydra missiles with the APKWS II system were first used in Afghanistan. Until January 2013, 100 Hydra APKWS II missiles were used up there, and not a single failure of the guidance equipment was noted.

The LOGIR (Low Cost Guided Imaging Rocket) system has been developed by the U.S. Navy in collaboration with South Korean firms since 1999. Its core is the LCITS (Low-Cost Imaging Terminal Seeker), which is based on Thermal Imaging Coordinator KAB JDAM. The LOGIR system also uses a standard control system from JDAM. On the final part of the trajectory, at a distance of 2 km from the target, the LOGIR GOS compares the target image with an IR or TV image from the on-board carrier system or other information sources (satellites, UAVs, etc.) introduced into the rocket’s equipment before launch. Comparison of the image with the reference is carried out at a frequency of 30 times per second. GOS is installed in the bow of the rocket, in front of the warhead. Estimated CWO of a missile with LOGIR GOS is 1 m, the maximum launch range is more than 6 km. The cost of one Hydra rocket with LOGIR GOS is estimated at about $ 15000.

Yes, I "heard" that the Americans had a plan for the development of "Hydra" in 2 stages ... At the first stage, a semi-active laser seeker ... at the second, a thermal imaging (IR) seeker ... But today I had no information about the state of the "2nd stage"! You "enlightened" me! hi
