In Vietnam, tested a new air defense system on the chassis of KamAZ
Vietnamese anti-aircraft gunners will soon receive a new short-range anti-aircraft missile system. Successful testing of a new air defense system at a military training ground of the Ministry of Defense of Vietnam is reported by IndoPacific News on its Twitter page.
The latest anti-aircraft system, designated A-72, was created on the chassis of the Russian KamAZ-43266 truck. SAM itself is a special device installed in the back of a car on which are mounted containers of portable anti-aircraft missile systems (MANPADS) Strela-2M in the amount of four pieces, two on each side. Two SAM systems are also located there, most likely one operator and one charging, which can change the shot container.
As reported, this complex can use instead of MANPADS "Strela-2M" and more advanced MANPADS "Igla-S", capable of hitting targets at ranges up to 6 km. A feature of this air defense system is the installation of a two-channel optical-electronic sight, which allows it to passively detect air targets and hit them at any time of the day without first detecting itself.
The characteristics of the new A-72 air defense system are not given, but it is not difficult to guess that in the anti-aircraft part they will mainly correspond to the performance characteristics of the Strela-2M or Igla-S air defense systems, and in the self-propelled one to the Russian KamAZ-43226.
The developers of this SAM system report that a similar system with a two-channel optical-electronic sight will soon be installed on a self-propelled gun ZSU-23-4, undergoing modernization in Vietnamese enterprises.
