The Israeli Ministry of Defense signed an agreement with its Czech counterparts on the sale to Prague of the radar systems used in the Iron Dome missile defense system, Singapore-based Channel NewsAsia (CNA) reports.
The source notes that the radars will be integrated into the Czech air defense system, which will use its own missile launchers. Also, radars will interact with NATO systems. The transaction price is about 125 million dollars. Delivery of the complex to the buyer is expected in 2021-2023 years.
Czech Defense Minister Lubomir Metnar said the acquisition of an Israeli radar was one of the “key modernization projects” of his country's armed forces. He also said the deal would help launch "a process to end our dependence on outdated Russian (Soviet) equipment."
The Iron Dome system was developed by the Israeli company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems with American funding. It is designed to intercept missiles fired from a distance of four to seventy kilometers. The Israeli Air Force has been exploiting it since the 2011 of the year, stating that it has successfully resisted attacks from the Gaza Strip and Syria.
