Iranian media announced plans to build a "giant destroyer"

By order of the Iranian Navy fleet it is planned to build a “giant destroyer” that can operate in international waters for a long time. This was reported by the local FNA media with reference to the statement of the country's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Hossein Hanzhan.

According to the designated military, the efforts of his department developed the Negin project, which envisaged the construction of a new destroyer. As he said, the ship will have a displacement from 5 thousand to 7 thousand tons and will be able to carry out combat missions in remote areas for quite some time.

As explained in the FNA, “the heaviest destroyers [so in the text - IN] used by the Iranian naval forces have a displacement of almost 1300 tons. ” However, according to the publication, major successes were achieved in shipbuilding, allowing to fulfill the task.

These statements look somewhat ambiguous. Over the past decades, the ship is traditionally classified as a destroyer, if it has a tonnage of 5 thousand tons, or even more. For example, the American "Arly Burke" - 8,4 thousand tons of full displacement. Against this background, “gigantic” ships of a slightly different level can be called, such as the Zumwalt with 14,5 thousand tons.

Although it should be noted that many countries are trying to upgrade the status of their Navy by simply increasing the capacity of their ships.

Well done! Do not lose heart, try to move forward, despite the sanctions. Unbearable mattresses.

I absolutely support, they try, weapons produce different things, there are successes in rocket science! But they won’t be able to build the destroyer for 7 thousand tons on their own, they don’t have the experience of not building up such construction!

I am pleased with the successes of the countries that, due to certain political decisions, have found themselves isolated, but despite all the obstacles they are trying to create something. Especially when this "something" is of national importance.

That's for sure! And more recently, no one suggested that the DPRK has nuclear weapons and missiles ... belay And Israel used to have neither an army, nor its weapons, but what is there - Israel itself was not on the map until 1948 ... belay Iran was famous for the production of essential oils used by perfumers in Europe (France) ... belay
This is wonderful when there was no experience, but they built it. Worse when there was experience, there were technologies, there was a production base, equipment and professionals, but now they can’t do anything ...

The withdrawal of the Iranian navy far beyond the coastal waters will strengthen its position in claims for regional leadership. But the appearance of one such destroyer is not enough. The "mosquito fleet" will apparently remain the backbone of the Iranian navy for a long time. hi

The very appearance of such a ship will only mean that the country's industry is developing, and not content with the development of layouts.

And where do they gain experience from?
The Chinese won, too, to build planes "there was no experience." But other people bought, tried to copy, added something of their own ... And now, get out, at the 5th generation of completely domestic production.
They will build - there will be experience.
And they need warships with a long autonomy, the Americans need to pat their nerves.

Why do something ?! "Let the Americans spend money, develop. And then we have them scrapes." (from) lol

The terms "destroyer" and "cruiser" have somehow got confused recently.
Arly Burke Flight III caught up with the cruiser Ticonderoga, and are called destroyers.
Like the Zumwalt, overtaking Ticonderoga one and a half times in terms of displacement.

This was already in its time: the frigates were constantly growing in displacement and, at some point, safely "moved" to the class of cruisers. All repeats.

The terms "destroyer" and "cruiser" ...... there will still be, I remember the union was such a project 58, he barely pulled on a destroyer, but the maniacal love of crushing missiles 58 was elevated to a cruiser with the specification-missile Union, there was a lot of things that were not clear in the Navy, for example, what is the difference between an anti-submarine ship and a destroyer, the deadvoy is the same, the weapons are the same, ... so it remains to puzzle what and how to call

Why are you embarrassed? So they would say, they say, we want the cruiser!
Or are Americans afraid, they want to confuse? what

Well, given the fact that Iran has long and deeply under sanctions, the construction of such a ship for Iran is really, some kind of, prohibitively possible event.

Is this gigantomania justified? request After all, a couple, or one frigate can sink any giant ....

The Americans use the entire arsenal of pressure on Iran, and they (Iranians), having shown the United States a big fig, continue to develop their armed forces and navy. And they will build what they planned.

Alas, now it is not like a "giant" does not pull. So, a ship of medium displacement. With us, these are frigates of the Admiral Gorshkov type, and although we also make "super Gorshkovs" ...
