Russia shows interest in Italian "soldier of the future" program
The program Future Soldier (Soldato Futuro) is carried out in the interests of the Italian army since 2004. The lead developer is Selex Galileo, which is part of the Finmeccanica group, which has created an individual set of "digital" equipment for the fighter Individual Combat Fire Control and Observation System within this program. Prototyping of system kits is under way from the 2007 of the year, and by the beginning of the 2012 of the year, 95 of the experimental kits was delivered. The Italian army ordered the 1800 serial kits, which should be launched in the Pinerolo brigade in the 2012 year.
Created in the framework of the Italian program Future Soldier kit "digital" equipment of a fighter Individual Combat Fire Control and Observation System developed by Selex Galileo (с) Selex Galileo
The Selex Galileo’s Individual Combat Fire Control and Observation System Digital Kit includes the following main components:
ASPIS - multifunctional sight for small weapons, including day and night thermal imaging channels, a laser sight, and also having the ability to wirelessly transfer images from a sight to a NIMOS helmet or an external portable terminal. In the Italian army, ASPIS should be properly installed on a new 5,56-mm automatic rifle Beretta ARX-160, optionally equipped with an 40-mm GLX-160 rifle grenade launcher.
The SCORPIO is a portable sight for the GLN-40 160-mm grenade launcher that includes a digital ballistic computer with the ability to receive target data from other elements of the kit wirelessly. The sight allows you to expose a controlled undermining of shot grenades.
LINX is a portable individual binoculars-target designator, which includes optical, television and night thermal imaging channels, laser designator, integrated GPS receiver, and allows you to record video and wirelessly transmit it, as well as the calculated information about the target.
The NIMOS is a helmet-mounted sight-indicator that includes its own digital low-level TV camera and OLED display, which can display images and data wirelessly from ASPIS and SCORPIO sights and LINX binoculars, as well as from Wearable PC’s military computer (developed by Larimart) integrated in the general network of the unit. Thus, messages, commands, digital maps, etc. can be displayed. The kit includes noise-proof headphones with a communication headset and an integrated sensor for monitoring the physiological state of the fighter.
The network software of the kit includes, according to the developer, separation into С2 and С4I networks. С2 subsystem includes navigation and mapping software (through the GPS receiver integrated into Wearable PC), monitoring the physiological data of the fighter's condition and managing all the gadgets of the kit. The C4I subsystem includes a communication system between fighters and with the squad and platoon commanders. All wireless connections, both in the bundle itself and in the C4I communication subsystem, are highly secure.
Also, the program Future Soldier provides for equipping with a new set of protective equipment, a protective helmet, unloading, a set of protection against weapons of mass destruction and a set of batteries. The equipment of the Future Soldier kit is integrated with equipment purchased by the Italian army of the new Freccia armored personnel carrier, which is currently being tested in Russia.
