The Chinese version of the Su-27 received a radar with AFAR "to track targets in the three elements"

In the military-themed issue of CCTV, material was released on the modernization of the J-11B multipurpose Chinese fighter. The basic option for this model of the fighter was the Su-27.

The Chinese version of the Su-27 received a radar with AFAR "to track targets in the three elements"

The material of the Chinese television channel confirmed that the PLA air force fighter received "a completely new radar, which can significantly increase the range of target detection."

From the material on the aforementioned television channel:

Unlike the black J-11B fighters characteristic for our fighters, in the front of the aircraft, new radars are installed under the white cone (dome). New radars allow the use of long-range missiles.

This is a PL-15 air-to-air missile. According to statements by Chinese media, the range of hitting targets with this missile exceeds 200 km. For example, Chinese fighters of the new generation J-20 are equipped with the same missiles.

A CCTV source reports that at the moment, the upgraded J-11B multi-role fighters are undergoing pilot combat operations in desert conditions. In particular, it is noted that in this way the maximum detection range of targets of the new radar is established.

Editor in Chief Aerospace knowledge Wang Yanan notes that we are talking about a radar with an active phased array (AFAR), which will allow the fighter to track targets "in the three elements" - on land, on water and, naturally, in the air.

Probably there is no word "fairing" in the Chinese language, and even "radio-transparent".

what can I say China, being the first economy in the world, knows how to count money, and invests in modernization .. we have something to learn from them ..

Yeah ... We NEED to learn from them! I am in China at the reception of ships. I saw their spike yards. I also visit amber and the Kirov factory. The difference is pipets! And most importantly, the Chinese are developing. Do not stand still. They do not build shopping centers and supermarkets. They build railways and cars. Terminals, processing enterprises .... Under license, the IAC State Duma and the caterpillar are slandered. C systems Rolls Royce etc .....

You do not understand me, I'm a little about something else. the meaning of my words is that in China they know how to count money .. because the J-11B is 27, it's an old plane. but at the same time they write it off and actively modernize and unify it. although financially they could easily afford to build more modern fighters. we have these huge problems. and just in the Navy it is expressed very strongly .. the ship being the lead ship may not receive modernization all its life. we prefer to invent new projects. which is very hard on our economic opportunities

How old is he? They are still Tu-16 (Xian H-6) with might and main exploit.

That's what tankers mean in 1989 received a clear order and complied with it. It's a shame that ours in 1991 could do exactly the same, but did not ...

Just think about it! The color of the radiolucent fairing affects the properties of the radar. And if you paint it red?

        Everything is written correctly.
PL-15 - a long-range explosive missile. The new aircraft AFAR radar will allow a fighter to lead a missile to a target at a greater distance than the previous radar.

Alex, hi . Remember our argument about serial AFAR installations abroad? As you can see, the PRC is only now planning to put a serial AFAR. You wrote that everyone put it on for a long time. They only tested the AFAR on the J-11B last year. On the Rafals, only a couple of squadrons have such a radar. So in series, only Americans put AFAR at the moment.

Somehow it all looks strange: such a miniature rocket, and goes 200 km ...
RVV-BD (R-37) also runs 200 km, but it also looks more solid, and its length is 4,2 m, and its diameter is 0,4 m - so the weight of the warhead is 60 kg.

And hell knows what she is so small. Really looks like a medium-range missile like AIM-120, P-27, Meteor.
Our R-37M and KS-172, of course, are from a different class - 600 kg / 4 meters one and 750 kg / 7 meters another. The range is estimated at one 300, another 400 km. But the Chinese still have 200. I think that our long-range is not a competitor.
But nevertheless, everyone was very concerned about something when they saw this PL-15. I think it’s not a matter of ultra-long range, but the appearance of long-range missiles from a competitor.

Anyway, I can’t believe that the Chinese, still quite suckers in the construction of special missiles, and suddenly rolled out such that all of their jaws fell off.
I think that we are dealing with one of two things:
            1. Photoshop used to distort projections for misleading.
            2. Or is it generally fake.
Anyone should listen to what the comrades say.

Well done Chinese! And what anyone did not understand about the "three elements" ... so the Chinese are too profound, even the chief editors.
The main threat to the Chinese is the United States, and they have not forgotten the opium wars.
According to the elements: on land, the Americans against the Chinese simply have nothing to catch, it was even a war in Korea 60 years ago that showed, although for Amers the conditions there were much more favorable than today's realities.
At sea - the Chinese are building a fleet, they are completing it with all the necessary categories of ships, they are catching underwater (!!!) American experimental robots, the pace of building the fleet has accelerated, and the Americans don't even catch up with them.
In the air - the traditional trump card of the Americans - air superiority is melting rapidly and steadily. China was the first in the world to buy the S-400 complex; it has itself riveted S-300 clones in commercial volumes for a long time, and has been making quite large volumes of combat aircraft. Not all classes, of course, they do not have something like Tu160. But there are fighters, and, including the excellent SU-27 with AFAR and a long-range air-to-air missile, is a check and checkmate for air aggressors.
      These are three environments.
This is not even about space and nuclear missiles, about which, unlike ours or the United States, little is known, except that there are successes there and there.
Yes, I almost forgot, after all, it seems, we have already promised SPRN? I think it’s useful for myself, too, but for China it will be a plus.
Yes, let the Germans, the Dutch, the French, as well as the Australians, Japanese, Poles and other Latvian-Romanians, not be offended. We do not take them into balance due to the insignificance of their potentials in this issue.

If only we all of our Su-27 / 30s that are still flying are upgrading. A cheap way to get a large number of modern aircraft at once.

Although, maybe after a not long time everything will be. But it is difficult to dissuade me from the fact that for this some "managers" need to be imprisoned or shot. It's just that I've been working for almost a year in a federal agency.

We like no one disdain modernization. Su-27 SM3, mig-31BM, these are not new aircraft and they are modernized. But there is one moment, the old plane requires modernization and overhaul in place. It is completely disassembled, and then reassembled. It’s cheaper of course than a new fighter, but it’s not as cheap as it might seem, and the aircraft’s life is only extended for ten years.

On the Su-27SM3 there is a radar from the Su-27S. It was better not to upgrade it at all than to upgrade it like that.

First, overhaul was done there. So that the plane could fly simply, and not stand in the hangar. Plus, overhaul also modernization. Without a radar, of course, but aircraft capabilities have increased. Then do not forget that China J11 continues to release, like J15,16. And to put an outdated radar on a new plane is somehow not very.
