“Some have rights, others have responsibilities”: Turkey proposed reforming the UN
According to Szentop, it is extremely important to review those mechanisms and structures of the international plan that have ceased to meet modern challenges.
The chairman of the Turkish parliament noted that today there can be no talk of any world order, because some countries “have only rights” and others “only responsibilities”.
Mustafa Sentop recalled that earlier, the Turkish president also called for UN reform. Erdogan considers it unacceptable that the largest international organization has lost all opportunity to resolve international disputes, prevent or suppress armed conflicts.
Mustafa Shentop:
At the same time, Szentop did not specify what exactly the Turkish authorities mean when they propose UN reform.
Earlier, Ukraine and the Baltic countries proposed to exclude Russia from the UN Security Council. Other countries proposed expanding the list of permanent members of the UN Security Council. Russia, in turn, proposed transferring several UN committees from the United States, for example, to Europe, so that the American authorities would lose the opportunity to hinder the work of the committees by issuing visas to diplomats.
