AR-15: "Spray-Spit"
In general, there is nothing particularly terrible in this name itself. This is just a semi-automatic rifle, but without a serial number, which the police do not know about. Here again we turn to American laws. And they say that not every part of it is a weapon, but above all a “receiver” (lower receiver), since this is the basis of its design. That is, the law of the United States determines that the “receiver” is the “firearms”. That's because the serial number is applied to it, which is registered at the police station when buying a rifle. No numbers - no rifles, no weapons. These are American laws. If you wish, you can buy a tank there at auction. True, his gun will be deactivated. But no one bothers you to buy tank machine gun and not even one. And put them on the tank. And you will have a real tank, but only with machine gun weapons.
And now the most important thing. If a modern American wants to get hold of a “ghost weapon”, he only needs to pay out $ 67 for a piece of aluminum and $ 500 for a computer-controlled milling machine manufactured by Defense Distributed. This company gained fame in 2012 - 2013 years when it printed its first plastic gun “Liberator” on an ZD-printer. It had only one metal part - the firing pin for the capsule, and all the other 17 parts were plastic. But it was still plastic. That is, fragile material, actually designed for only a few shots. In addition, the company was forbidden to post its developments on the Internet, including this gun. A lawsuit lasted several years between the US State Department and Defense Distributed, and it ended in July 2018 with the fact that the company was able to obtain permission to freely distribute its weapon models. After that, the company created the Ghost Gunner machine, which can already cut parts for weapons from aluminum. Of course, a skilled gunsmith could have previously made a metal receiver for the AR-15 in his garage. It was enough to have drilling and milling machines and it was possible to make the receiver no worse than the factory one. But ... this required skills, knowledge and skills. Now none of this is needed.
Yes, in principle, it is not at all difficult to buy an AR-15 rifle in the USA. Ho, you can make a receiver for it yourself, and buy all the other parts for it. The fact is that they are practically not regulated anywhere. For example, there is an Ares Armor website where you can order all its parts, including the barrel and bolt, and you only need a delivery address. Moreover, although the sale and purchase of “Cooking-confectionery” is prohibited by law, its manufacture is permitted. And if it is allowed, then ... you can buy 80% semi-finished receiver for the "arch" and finish it yourself. But again - this will require skill. It’s like a prefabricated model of a plastic tank or aircraft. It seems that all the parts in the kit are there, it remains to separate them from the frame and glue them carefully. But ... someone does it, but someone doesn’t. So for the vast majority of modern Americans, this is not an option. Of course, we are talking about those of them who planned to make an “arch” - ghost gun.
3D printing today is a very fashionable thing and, by the way, also allows you to make weapon parts. To do this, you can use the Makerbot Replicator machine at a cost of $ 2800. On The Pirate Bau website in 2013, you could find a box layout for the AR-15, completely ready for the ZD print. The scheme is downloaded as usual, loaded, and you can print the part. True, the print head is overheated from work and it requires time to open, and then the interrupted process starts again. Details can be made this way in one night, but you will need to remove the backing plastic. And he, in addition, fills in all the minor holes. Nevertheless, there are videos on YouTube that show how you can print a custom box made of plastic, which may well be able to withstand a few shots.
However, today there are already such machines that make it possible to fully manufacture a part of any complexity. This is primarily the Ghost Gunner, which provides a black cube with two stepping motors. It can work either with the GRBL program, or with DDCut - the Windows-program, and the manual for the manufacture of the original box attached to this machine is designed specifically for the use of DDCut. You buy a machine, then a blank for self-production of the receiver (ready already at 80%) and, by clicking the button, you begin to monitor how it is finalizing it. Sometimes the program gives the command to change the position of the parts, tighten or loosen the fasteners, change the cutter or remove the guard. Almost four hours are needed to make a part. But then you get a rifle part that is perfect for all of its factory components!
After that, it will take another hour to assemble the AR-15. This is how the nameless receiver turns into a weapon from which you can kill, but which is not tracked in any way, since it does not have a serial number.
According to American law, such weapons, and especially the receiver, must be destroyed by a gas burner so that it could not be repaired by any force. By the way, you need to know and remember one more “trick”. This product is illegal, that is, banned in the states of New Jersey and New York. So if you live in the Big Apple, don’t try to buy anything from DD or buy it in another state, and enter “this” here! Well, now, how much will it all cost the American? This has been calculated for a long time: $ 1ЗЗ4 version with the manufacture of a receiver on a ZD printer: and the variant already mentioned above using the Ghost Gunner machine manufactured by Defense Distributed, including ordering their own set of milling cutters and drills for $ 86. But is it really such a big fee for killing from a "ghost weapon"? And how seductive, isn't it? And from 2020 of the year, DD will release a semi-finished product for ... AK-47!
