State tests of the frigate Admiral Kasatonov began in the Northern Fleet

At the Northern Shipyard, they confirmed the frigate’s transition from the Baltic Fleet to the Northern Fleet, where state tests of the ship have already begun, which go in parallel with the factory chassis. At the moment, the commissioning team and the frigate’s crew closed 18 from 80 certificates under the state testing program. In particular, the State Acceptance Commission has already accepted the work of the main power plant, communication and navigation systems, deck mechanisms, crew living conditions.

According to a press release distributed by the Severnaya Verf Shipyard, the frigate is currently preparing for tests of weapons, military equipment and aircraft equipment, which will be held in November at one of the Northern Fleet training grounds.

According to the plans of the North Shipyard manufacturing plant, the frigate will be transferred to the Navy by the end of the year.

The frigate “Admiral Kasatonov” is the second ship of the 22350 project and the first serial ship after the lead frigate “Admiral Gorshkov”. The displacement of 5 is thousands of tons with a length of 135 m and a width of 16 m. The frigate is able to go 4500 miles, thus developing speed to 29 nodes. The autonomy of swimming is 30 days. Crew - from 170 people.

Main power plant: gas turbine engine with a total capacity of 65 thousand liters. pp., diesel generators with a total capacity of 4 thousand kW.

The frigate is armed with: 130-mm A-192 artillery mount, Poliment-Redoubt anti-aircraft missile system, launchers for 16 anti-ship missiles Onyx or Caliber, anti-submarine complex Package, anti-submarine helicopter Ka-27.

Are the turbines on it already ours?
The event, of course, is joyful!
Frigates are universal surface warships in the far zone.
It’s a pity that we cannot build larger yet. Well, or we do not wish.
It is painfully expensive to build "boats" ... Very much!
But sooner or later it will be necessary to switch to large ones.

        This is not in doubt.
It’s just important to prioritize / allocate money correctly.
You can build one aircraft carrier or for this money two dozen of these frigates.
Personally, I do not presume to make a choice.

Aircraft carrier, this is the weapon of the ocean, with all the ensuing problems. A frigate, this is a universal weapon and more in line with the defense of its borders, where there are much fewer problems. And the main thing, you need to do what we get.

In the absence of worked out in the construction of FR to build AB there is no sense. Without an escort, AB is extremely vulnerable.
And the main task of AB in our Navy is to cover ships from the air. If there are no ships, then whom should he cover? smile

The ships of project 22350 are quite fast: they reach speeds of up to 30 sea knots (about 55 kilometers per hour). The propulsion system consists of two marching sixteen-cylinder diesel engines in the bow and two afterburners at the stern. Diesels produced by the Kolomensky Zavod with a capacity of five thousand horsepower each are complaints from motorists. In addition to diesel engines, there are gas turbine engines at the stern. They are used when the ship needs to dramatically “accelerate” or perform a quick maneuver. At "Kasatonov" installed engines still Ukrainian production. However, according to representatives of the Severnaya Verf shipyard, the next ships of the series will be equipped with domestic engines, which surpass Ukrainian ones in a number of parameters.

Of course it is interesting, our "Saturn" (power plant) and others were developing the M55R together with ukrami, and everything was received by "Zorya Mashproekt" (turbocharger and gearbox). Already 10 years have passed, we cannot create these two elements. As always, "Give your wife to your uncle and yourself .... without engines"

The first two ships of project 22350 - the lead and the first serial - are equipped with a joint-production gas turbine engine. Completely domestic gas turbine engines will go starting from the second serial ship - FR "Admiral Golovko".

"Zorya-Mashproekt" for DGA M55R (GTE M90FR + diesel) made only a turbocharger and a reducer. And she tested the complete unit.
The power turbine was made by Saturn, control systems - by Aurora, diesel - by Kolomna. Actually, ZAO "Turborus" was created specifically for this cooperation.
If DGA was entirely Ukrainian, we would still be trying to import it.

Should have been thrown into the sea?

Of course not, but we have been waiting for information about the domestic unit for a long time. They promised to establish production by the end of 2018, they seemed to have adjusted it, produced an initial batch of turbines, but the unit for Golovko seems to be still in bench tests, it has not yet been delivered to the case.

So far at Kasatonovo there are Ukrainian "Zri", and "Turborus" has not yet been able to bring to mind, most likely a turbocharger and a gearbox. Therefore, it is too early to talk about building large ships. You need your own reliable, powerful engine. The idea is very promising, but as always (but we wanted the best).

        While on "Kasatonov" Ukrainian "See",

        More precisely, the joint "Turboruses":
The creation of the M55R diesel-gas turbine unit has been carried out by Turborus CJSC since 1993 on the basis of the Intergovernmental Agreement between Russia and Ukraine on cooperation in the field of marine gas turbine construction. From the Russian side, the NPO Saturn OJSC (the area of responsibility is the power turbine), FSUE Avrora NPO (gas turbine engine and diesel engine control systems), Kolomensky Zavod OJSC (diesel engine) participate in the cooperation on the creation of the unit; from Ukraine - GP NPKG "Zorya - Mashproekt" (turbocharger and gearbox). Tests are carried out on the basis of the Ukrainian state enterprise NPKG Zorya-Mashproekt, since in Russia there is no test bench for offshore gas turbine units in Russia.
According to Leonid Ivanov, General Director of ZAO Turborus, "testing of new units of this type has not been carried out for more than 20 years, and in the conditions of a market economy and cooperation of enterprises of two independent states, this is the first project of this kind." The M55R diesel-gas turbine unit is created on the basis of the M90FR gas turbine engine and the 10D49 diesel engine, and has a capacity of 27500 hp. when operating a gas turbine and 5200 hp when the diesel engine is running. Interdepartmental tests of the M90FR ship gas turbine engine were successfully completed by JSC "Turborus" in 2006.

This was already the case in the second half of the 19th century, after the American Civil War, everyone decided that monitors are a universal weapon with which you can solve any problems, these are small, cheap, with a low profile, with powerful artillery, ships reserved beyond measure, they even went out into the open ocean. But they quickly realized that without large, seaworthy, highly autonomous ships, nothing could be solved. It is necessary to build large ships, whose presence in the sea will not give chances to such frigates even to leave the base.
