India distributes Mi-35 as gifts

The Afghan Air Force received two Mi-35 attack helicopters as a gift from India on Tuesday. This transfer of technology was carried out in the framework of earlier agreements.

In 2016, Kabul turned to India with a request to repair and provide new spare parts for 11 Mi-35 helicopters and 7 transport units aviation. In the same year, New Delhi delivered 4 Mi-35 helicopters, and in May 2019, 2 aircraft were transferred to the Afghan Air Force.

Two Mi-35 attack helicopters donated to Afghan forces by India

- Representative of the country's military department Favad Aman wrote on 15 in October on Twitter.

Indian authorities handed over the cars to the Afghan Air Force during a ceremony organized at the Kabul airport. The ceremony was like giving out gifts.

According to information provided by IISS, the Indian Air Force has a total of 19 units of Mi-25 / Mi-35 Hind. All helicopters are in two squadrons. Apparently, it was decided to replace the drum fleet with the American AH-64E Apache. The contract for the supply of 22 units was signed in the 2015 year, the first helicopter arrived in May 2019 year. Shipment completion is expected before March 2020.

It is quite possible that against this background a decision was made to actually remove the Mi-25 / 35 from service by transferring it to Kabul.

    India distributes Mi-35 as gifts

Knowing their production and repair culture, such dubious "gifts" are obtained.

Good Indians, they will give the last shirt, they themselves will remain in bathrobes, and the shirts will delight. Maybe they will simply give the remaining helicopters to Russia? It’s a kind of business in Tsigansky - to buy an expensive zbroyu and horseshoes for a horse, and then give a horse to a neighbor. ..

To see the results of the gypsy business, it is enough to visit one of the so-called gypsy villages in any regional center.

Likely. At one time, he served on the Tajik-Afghan border (93-94gg) and watched the river completely new Russian equipment, Kamaz, shishigi, BMP. Which drove the fighters of Dostum. Dostum was loyal to Russia. Provided order from that side of the border. But you can’t supply him with equipment and weapons. But it is possible to Uzbekistan. But Uzbekistan could already supply anything to anyone. And it’s nothing that we then supplied Uzbekistan with a little more equipment than they needed. And no one will ever know who and where the money streams flowed to.

The attack helicopter fleet in India is already very, very small. Well, there will be 22 Apaches, China has about 250 drummers for comparison. They won’t do the weather.

Apparently there is no one to fly on them. And in the structure of the troops, they cannot really enter attack helicopters.

These are not civil contracts for you. When buying military property, it is usually prescribed that without the permission of the country of manufacture, transfer / resale is prohibited. So, I think that Russia gave the go-ahead.

It seems that everything is different. Look at the map, and you will see that in the north of India, the borders of four states converge (even five, Tajikistan, I do not mean.). And they all conflict. Someone, someone, appeases.

It is possible to prescribe a ban on the right to transfer to third parties in either a "civil" or a "military" contract. Or you may not register.
Considering the size of the Hindu market, their solvency and passion for ritual dances before buying (I will buy this, I will buy this), it can be assumed that they still push certain points of contracts in their favor.

November 2017 - "We used to buy helicopters from Russia and receive equipment for repair. Now we receive helicopters made by NATO countries, we no longer need Russian helicopters" - and. about. Minister of Defense of Afghanistan Tariq Shah Bahrami.
March 2018 - "The Afghan Armed Forces are still mostly equipped with weapons and equipment of Russian (Soviet) production. At one time, we purchased helicopters of the Mi-17 and Mi-35 modifications from Russia. Some of these helicopters are in working order. some are in need of major repairs and / or extension of service life. " - Ambassador of Afghanistan Abdul Qayum Kochai. They want them, but for free - "A similar gesture of goodwill of the Russian authorities in the framework of a joint struggle against a common enemy." Now we have found another way .. there is a game of its own, maybe the TAPI gas pipeline, maybe ...

AH-64E and MI-35 are completely different machines for different tasks. One to another is no substitute. But after the last hard-to-explain multi-vector tricks, I'm no longer interested in what Indians are guided by. The Chinese are taking leaps and bounds ahead with their military industry, their armament standards and the development strategy of the armed forces. Hindus seem to just want everyone to do well. Including the Chinese.

India is switching to modern weapons systems. Without modern electronics, navigation and target designation, even a good helicopter is rubbish. Our equipment is now only suitable for driving shepherds through the mountains, and even then, with great danger for the crew, "grab" a MANPADS missile into the side.

Glossy color is especially pleasing. This is so that even the blind could miss the balloons.

On September 28, 2015, the Indian Ministry of Defense signed with the US government and Boeing Corporation a package of contracts worth $ 3 billion for the purchase of 22 AH-64E Apache Guardian combat helicopters and 15 CH-47F (I) Chinook transport helicopters (including the purchase of AN helicopters -64E intended 2,1 billion dollars of this amount). Contract options included 11 more AN-64E helicopters and seven CH-47F (I) helicopters.

According to the terms of the contracts Boeing pledged to reinvest 30% of the value of the agreements in India in the form of offsets.

After 4 years, the Indians waited for the first helicopter. Hooray comrades. Caps can be tossed.

Here is the key phrase of the article. I do not believe that Indians are changing a good MI-35 to a bad Apache. Rather, the opposite is true - the Mi-35 is inferior to Apache in many respects. Alas.
