In 2016, Kabul turned to India with a request to repair and provide new spare parts for 11 Mi-35 helicopters and 7 transport units aviation. In the same year, New Delhi delivered 4 Mi-35 helicopters, and in May 2019, 2 aircraft were transferred to the Afghan Air Force.
Two Mi-35 attack helicopters donated to Afghan forces by India
- Representative of the country's military department Favad Aman wrote on 15 in October on Twitter.
Indian authorities handed over the cars to the Afghan Air Force during a ceremony organized at the Kabul airport. The ceremony was like giving out gifts.
According to information provided by IISS, the Indian Air Force has a total of 19 units of Mi-25 / Mi-35 Hind. All helicopters are in two squadrons. Apparently, it was decided to replace the drum fleet with the American AH-64E Apache. The contract for the supply of 22 units was signed in the 2015 year, the first helicopter arrived in May 2019 year. Shipment completion is expected before March 2020.
It is quite possible that against this background a decision was made to actually remove the Mi-25 / 35 from service by transferring it to Kabul.
