American "Valkyries" XQ-58A will be launched from sea containers
The American company Kratos has developed the option of transporting and placing the drone along with the launch system in a standard sea container. According to the developers, such a transportation scheme will allow for the covert movement of devices, as well as significantly expand the possibilities of its use, since everything necessary for launching is already placed in the container.
The new launch system is a catapult with an XQ-58A drone already mounted on it without wings installed, which are separately located on the walls of the container. Before launching the catapult on rails extends from the container, wings are attached to the drone and launch is carried out.
As previously reported, Valkyrie has a length of 9,1 meters and a wingspan of 8,2 meters. The device is capable of carrying combat load weighing 272 kilograms in the internal arms bays or on the external sling and can fly at altitudes up to 13,7 thousands of meters.
The Kratos XQ-58 Valkyrie is a stealth UAV (UCAV), designed and manufactured for the Low Cost Assault Mission Program (LCASD). The Valkyrie UAV made its first successful 5 flight on March 2019 at the Yuma Test Site, Arizona. After the completion of the program, the US Air Force intends to acquire several units of XQ-58A drones, which will already be tested as unmanned aerial vehicles for fighters. Tests within the framework of this project are planned to begin in the 2021 year and be completed within 2-3 years.
