In Poland, launched the second minesweeper of the 258 project of the Kormoran type
The ship ORP Albatros is the second in the series and the first serial after the main minesweeper Kormoran, which became part of the Polish Navy at the end of November 2017. The ship was built under the option of two additional ships. In addition, on October 14, a steel cutting ceremony was held for the third ship of the series, which will be called the ORP Mewa.
Project 258 is a long-term Polish program fleet to create a new generation minesweeper, begun back in the 1980s. The first version of project 257 under the Kormoran code was completed in 1999, but was canceled for financial and technical reasons in 2002. In its current guise, a program like Kormoran II was reanimated in 2007. Since 2011, the design of the ship was carried out jointly by the Centrum Techniki Morskiej (CTM) design bureau and the Remontowa Shipbuilding, their consortium received in September 2013 the Polish Ministry of Defense contract for the construction of the main minesweeper (with two more options) for a total value of 1,2 billion zlotys (about 320 million dollars)
Kormoran minesweepers have a non-magnetic steel hull, full displacement - 850 m. Ship length - 58 m, breadth - 10,3 m, draft - 2,7 m. Crew - 45 people, plus space for six more people. The power plant includes two MTU 8V 396 TE74L diesel engines with an output of 1360 hp, and there is also a Schottel STT 170 AMAG thruster with an output of 135 hp. Full speed - 15 knots, cruising range at full speed - 2500 miles, autonomy of 10 days.
It is reported that "the mine’s armament should include the SCOT-M integrated integrated mine action system developed by the STM center, the SHL-101 / T mine-homing GAS and the Orka self-propelled GAS of varying depths"
Artillery armament: 23-mm twin anti-aircraft gun ZU-23-2MR Wrobel II, four sets of MANPADS Grom, as well as three 12,7-mm ZMT WKM-Bm machine gun. In the future, the ZU-23-2MR Wrobel II is planned to replace the new Polish 35-mm single-barrel Triton artillery.
