Projects of two more reconnaissance helicopters submitted to the US Army tender
Karem Aircraft presented the AR40 high-speed reconnaissance helicopter project, in which it is planned to create a machine with one rotor with a pushing propeller in the rear. The design provides for a side wing, which will create part of the lifting force in horizontal flight. The developers do not provide more detailed information, claiming that the flight speed of the AR40 helicopter will be 20 percent higher than that indicated by the military in the requirements for promising aircraft.
Earlier, the American company Sikorsky presented the project of the promising high-speed reconnaissance helicopter Raider-X, created using the prototype technologies S-97 Raider. The helicopter is also presented as part of the FARA tender.
According to the developers, the latest promising high-speed helicopter Raider-X will be able to reach speeds of more than 380 kilometers per hour. The helicopter is designed according to a coaxial scheme with a propeller. The body of the helicopter is made "faceted". Thus, it is proposed to reduce the effective dispersion area. The helicopter cockpit is designed for two pilots sitting next to each other. A cargo compartment is provided at the rear of the cabin for transporting goods or transferring troops. The helicopter is 27% more than its prototype S-97.
Recall. that the U.S. Army has signed an agreement with AVX Aicraft, Bell Helicopter, Boeing, Karem Aircraft and Sikorsky to create a high-speed reconnaissance helicopter to replace decommissioned OH-58D Kiowa Warrior reconnaissance helicopters. All contest participants will have to defend the projects of new helicopters in 2020
