In Ukraine, they decided on a large-scale reconstruction of the Dnieper hydroelectric dam. The life of the Dnieper hydroelectric station during the conversion should be extended for another 50 years. This is written by Ukrainian media with reference to the Director General of Ukrhydroenergo Igor Sirota.

It was decided to reconstruct the dam of the Dnieper hydroelectric station. Currently, technical expertise and project development are underway, the work itself should begin in two years. The main crossing should be a bridge crossing over the dam, the existing console-type crossing will be replaced, according to plans, with a two-level crossing. It is assumed that after the reconstruction the dam resource will be extended for another 50 years.

Today, together with foreign partners, we carry out a technical examination and then we will decide what measures should be taken to extend the life of the dam for 50 years

- said Sirota, adding that Ukrhydroenergo will finance the work, the final amount will be announced after the end of the examination.

Since the days of the USSR, the supporting structure of the Dnieper hydroelectric dam has never been modernized or strengthened. According to the standards of technical supervision, its operational resource was exhausted in the 2007 year. Recall that at the beginning of this year, the movement of heavy trucks was prohibited on the dam. The reason is the destruction of the road surface and the poor condition of the Dnieper Dam.

Dnieper Hydroelectric Power Station named after IN AND. Lenin (Dneproges) is a large hydroelectric power station in the south of Ukraine, located on the Dnieper River in Zaporozhye, the fifth stage of the cascade of Ukrainian hydroelectric power stations. The first phase of the hydroelectric power station was built in the 1927-1932 years, the ceremonial start-up was made on October 10 1932 year. During the Great Patriotic War, part of the Dnieper hydroelectric dam was destroyed. The power plant was completely restored by the 1950 year. In the framework of decommunization in Ukraine, the inscription "DneproGES named after Lenin" at the entrance to the dam was dismantled in 2016.

Just do not need all in a row under one comb! We are building and modernizing that something happens, such as a nuclear power plant, and something does not work out of course. But in Ukraine there are no positive examples at all, from the word at all! So catch a well-deserved minus !!!

Where it is possible to control the financial flow, everything turns out.
For example, the park of culture and recreation in Kharkov "Sarzhin Yar".
Any city would not refuse such. Very beautifully and thoughtfully done. Unique playgrounds for children, bike paths, landscape design. The designer was a genius, and all this was brought to life.
But, of course, this does not apply to military projects in Ukraine. Too much money. And those who feed on this field will not allow them to interfere with stealing

Yes, unfortunately there is a reason. Ukraine, over the past five years has given so many reasons that my mother does not worry. This is a mess with their nuclear power plants, when there was less than a day before the new Chernobyl, they had to put out their pride and call the developers of the unit to Moscow so that they would fly by and fly the reactor. They don’t talk about this much, and our people are silent from false modesty, so why denigrate the reactors. Only now, the former Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine said this.
The condition of the roads, I'm sorry, but in Yekaterinburg more roads are being made and repaired than in all of Ukraine. I declare this responsibly, as I was in Ukraine a couple of months ago. The airport of a large regional city, the Dnieper, produces four flights a day ... this is generally horrifying for me, remembering how intensively it was used in the USSR. Railways and mobile transport ... this is beyond words. But for all this, they allotted a lot of money, and where are they?

Here is the basis for you:
"..... In 2019, payments will increase to $ 5 billion, including servicing - up to $ 1,6 billion. $ 1,6 billion should go to repay the principal debt to IFIs, and $ 1,7 billion to holders of Eurobonds. dollars, creditor countries - 0,2 billion dollars.
            According to the schedule, external payments peaked in 2020: interest - $ 1,5 billion, MFIs - $ 1,8 billion, Eurobonds - $ 2,4 billion, official loans - $ 0,2 billion.
            Over the next three years, external debt spending will gradually decrease: 2021 - $ 5 billion, 2022 - $ 4,1 billion and 2023 - $ 4 billion ... "
At the same time, a multi-billion deficit in the pension fund. But in Ukraine, mind you, there is no national welfare fund, as in the Russian Federation. And the deficit will be extinguished by simple non-payment of pensions to someone. Therefore, I have quite reasonable doubts about the implementation of repair plans. After all, it’s not only the carriageway on the dam body that needs to be changed, but it’s time to send the generating equipment itself to the scrap metal. The hydroelectric power station cannot cope with its profit. Yes, under debt restructuring agreements, all that over 4% of GDP growth should go to creditors. Do you have reason for optimism? What kind?

There is no reason to hope that they will be implemented in the future. That is why I express my reasonable (as it seems to me) doubts about the plans of Ukrainians for the restoration of the Dnieper hydroelectric station. It recalls some airports after the collapse of Aeroflot and the USSR: the flight squad is one organization, ATB with transportation is another, and the ATS is the third.
In Tbilisi, in the year since 1993, the Tu-154 was unable to raise the front strut on take-off and as a result rolled out of the runway. It turned out that the airport cargo terminal is an independent organization and they simply did not give the crew a centering schedule, and the crew did not demand anything. The result is a very, very large excess of the maximum take-off mass and extremely forward alignment.

Just after building the house, the soil near it sank a little. It is on this soil that the decorative base, which also sagged, rests.

With hydraulic engineering, by the way, in Russia so far everything is better than anywhere else. The enormous experience gained during the Union affects it.
Yes, we had a big accident at the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric station - but this is a consequence of improper operation, builders / designers have nothing to do with it. In contrast, for example, from the same accidents at the Orovill HPP in the USA, where the direct cause is errors and miscalculations of design / construction.
Trying to "cure" the Dnieper Hydroelectric Power Station without us, Ukraine will lose money and gain inadequate quality, which may eventually turn into a real disaster.

I read that the "tsunami" estimate after the explosion of the Dnieper Hydroelectric Power Station during the Second World War was greatly overestimated and the wave height did not exceed 1-2 meters. So, if the dam collapses gradually, then the maximum that will happen is the shallowing of the Dnieper above the dam.

There, the peak was a couple of kilometers from the foot of the dam, and those who lived near the coast suffered. Further, a wave, albeit a "small" 1-2 meters descending, demolished our crossings, many of our soldiers died and suffered. And the worst thing happened in the place where the Dnieper flows into the sea. There was a flood in the floodplains, our soldiers fled in the trees, and the Germans shot them like in a shooting range, having fun ... they did not take prisoners

Not to mention the fact that Dneprges-2 was built in the 70s-80s
When recovering from January to August 1944, sappers removed 66 tons of bombs and explosives, 26 thousand mines, shells and grenades from the dam’s body [57].
      ...

In 1946, the American company General Electric delivered new generators for the Dnieper hydroelectric station to replace those destroyed during the war .... After the war, the first hydraulic unit was turned on in March 1947, and the last in May 1950.

In 1947-1973, the chief engineer of the Dnieper hydroelectric station was Anatoly Yakovlev; under Yakovlev, reconstruction and improvement of the main and auxiliary equipment was carried out, which made it possible to increase the reliability and efficiency of the hydropower plant. The capacity of the restored Dneproges exceeded the pre-war by 16% and amounted to 650 thousand kW. Complex mechanization and automation of production processes that took place in the 1950-1960s. under the leadership of A. F. Yakovlev, she improved the qualifications of personnel, halved operational personnel and increased the overhaul period of hydraulic units to 6-8 years. [59]
... In 1997-2002, the first was carried out, and in 2006 the second phase of the reconstruction of the Dnieper cascade of hydroelectric power stations was launched, which also included the reconstruction of equipment of the Dnieper hydroelectric station. [60] In 2008, reconstruction of the machine rooms of the station began. The Kharkov enterprise Turboatom replaced 6 turbines of a propeller type with a turbine of a rotary vane type PL 40-V-700 with a rated capacity of 115 MW and an impeller diameter of 7 m and weight of about 500 tons at DneproGES II. A rotary vane turbine is designed to increase the reliability of a hydroturbine installation, the amount of generated electricity, and can be used in a wider range of heads and loads.

Such facilities operate with ongoing maintenance and modernization.

Porridge in the article, to be honest.
The road does not go along the dam itself, but along the bridge over it.
This is the reconstruction of this bridge. The bridge crossing has nothing to do with the dam itself, its reliability, condition and other things, and everything is in order with the dam itself, no problems.
The problem is in the traffic interchange, the traffic flow has increased significantly, and new bridges in Zaporozhye have been building for twenty years already ...
Interestingly, before these de-communist renames in Ukraine, the dam has recently been the most Leninist place in the world.
If you drive in Zaporozhye from the right bank of the Dnieper to the left, from the Leninsky district along the Dneproges dam named after Lenin, Lenin’s lake with Lenin’s island visible on it is left, Lenin’s square with the famous Lenin’s monument, and Lenin Avenue dear to the port of Lenin.
