In India, they decided to implement import substitution of sniper rifles

15
In India, they declared the need for a short time to implement a program to turn the country into a "major world center for the production of military-technical products." As noted in the military department of India, the country should systematically reduce its dependence on foreign supplies in the defense sector.

One of the directions of the Indian version of the import substitution program is small weapon. So, it is stated that India is creating its own line of sniper weapons for subsequent implementation in law enforcement agencies, including the country's armed forces.

The Indian media quoted the statement of the head of the SSS (Stumpp Schuele & Somappa Springs) Defense firm (part of the Indian defense industry) Satish Mahani:

We began to design and develop sniper rifles after the start of the “Make in India” program in the defense sector. We will create two versions of sniper weapons. This is a completely Indian development.

We are talking about sniper rifles chambered for 7,62x51 mm and .338 Lapua Magnum (8,670 mm) with barrel length options from 20 to 24 inches.

Satish Machani:

Our company specialized for many years in the production of shock absorption systems for automobiles, then we began to supply weapon components. Now our idea and task is to create a complete line of sniper weapons.

According to Machani, the company has its own research center.

It will be interesting to see.
    Create something original?

it is unlikely that you can already soriginate in sniper weapons ...

The main thing for any state is not originality, the main thing is to create, at least initially, some average product. At the same time, jobs will be created in the country and production will be created, taxes from which will flow into the treasury.

Each time, import substitution of foreign defense products by India ends in zilch, as they say in such cases, acceleration by the ruble, a blow by a penny.

Then they will have failures, failures and they will start the next procurement tender

An Indian took over the development - In Kovrov they put vodka in the cold!

They will create a bolt rifle that has no analogues in the world ... in about 5 years. Then they will fail, fail, and they will start the next tender for the purchase.

Well, if it’s bolting, then it’s boring ... They will buy good forms of trunks, Indian children with small handles will cut a box for rifles from what thread of a beautiful local tree. Hang the planks of a weaver or picatini .... But if they do a semiautomatic device, it's already interesting, who will be copied? They will follow the path of reliability and sacrifice accuracy (SVD), or they will complicate the design for the sake of accuracy (Heckler koch)

Or maybe they do not need "no analogue in the world", but just need a good rifle? You have to start somewhere. Doing your own thing, with a population of one and a half billion, is, firstly, possible, and secondly, in any case, it is beneficial from the point of view of the economy. India, in terms of its labor potential, is capable of full and successful authoring. They understand this and therefore the transfer of manufacturing technologies is a condition of almost every purchase of a high-tech product. They think quite sensibly, although not without tricks wink .

In general, of course it’s interesting to create a shooter. But the Indians do not succeed.

It is unlikely that the Indians will create themselves, especially the whole line, of sniper weapons.
Rather, they will buy from someone, slightly modify, and will be released under the local name.
However, there may be a variant of "joint development", in fact it will all the same be reduced to the first.
Own development can be expected only when experience in production is gained, and even that is unlikely to cost without external help

It’s a bad idea for them, nothing good will come of it (well, if only they create a clone, but probably not from scratch.) Those countries that have experience in creating sniper rifles do not always work out smoothly, but here they decided to give a hooah create.

Just buy a license and do it at home. Our Russian Orsis bought a license for the British Alpine and quietly does, although our weapons school is much higher than the Indian
