South Korea will purchase additional F-35 and build its UDC

38
South Korea will acquire another 20 F-35 aircraft as part of the next stage of the transaction to upgrade its fighter fleet for fifth-generation aircraft. This was reported by the portal DefenseNews.

Seoul signed a contract with Washington, under which it will acquire an additional batch of stealth fifth generation fighters. Most likely, the South Asian state will acquire the standard version of the F-35A, and not the F-35B with a short take-off and vertical landing, as was previously expected.

The transaction, called FX III, is the exercise of an option to an existing agreement. Earlier, in the 2014 year, South Korea ordered 40 F-35A aircraft worth $ 6,4 billion, with the F-35 deliveries under this contract already starting this year. Buying additional cars will cost Seoul another 3,3 billion dollars.

40 F-35 until 2021 year

To date, the country's air force received eight F-35A aircraft. South Korea will receive five more aircraft by the end of the year. At 2020, Washington will transfer 14 machines to its Asian ally, and the remaining 13 will be delivered in 2021. In addition, Seoul is considering two projects for the construction of aircraft carriers, the “light” one, with a total displacement of slightly more than 40 000 tons and a wing of 12 aircraft, and a medium one with a displacement of 71 400 tons, and the wing will be represented by 32 aircraft and 8 helicopters.

The decision to purchase more F-35A was made on the basis of a report prepared by the Korean Military Analysis Institute KIDA.

Initially, it was assumed that the additional F-35 will be delivered in the STOVL version, that is, in the version with a shortened take-off and vertical landing: thanks to the presence of such machines, universal landing ships can be converted into light aircraft carriers. However, there are two problems with this machine at the moment.

Firstly, the F-35B is more expensive than the regular version. Secondly, the construction of the UDC is still a long way off.

- writes the publication DefenseNews, citing a source in the Ministry of Defense of South Korea.

In July, the South Korean military approved a plan to build the largest universal landing ship in stories countries as part of their long-term strength-building program. The displacement of the promising ship will be 30 000 tons, which is twice as much as the previous two - their displacement was 14 500 tons.

North Korea previously condemned the deployment of the F-35 in South Korea. In recent months, the DPRK has conducted a series of tests of new short-range ballistic missiles. According to experts, weapon It is aimed, in particular, at the F-35 base. In July, Pyongyang threatened to destroy all F-35A arriving in South Korea.

Korea has a very powerful fleet, including an expeditionary one.

Two UDC for 14000 tons - Dodko

        New LPH-II under construction - on 30 000 tons.

A series of 4 small (more Grena) landing ships with a docking camera.

Well, the strike force is the most powerful three destroyers in terms of armament in the world, such as Sijon the Great. 144 main missiles (MK41 + KR Hyunmoo III on 1000-1500km + SSM700 standard anti-ship missiles of the X-35 / Exoset type).

Three more destroyers laid on a slightly improved project.

Plus lighter destroyers on 2 VPU (MK41 + them to launch the Hyunmoo III CD).

Weak something air wing for 71 tons. I would like more information about these aircraft carriers. Ejection or springboard, approximate composition of the wing, type of power plant, etc.

I would not say that it is weak. This is a state of "peacetime". And the application of the state can begin to be revised. The main thing is to have a reserve and trained pilots.
Excites other - poor With Korea and rich South. That is what it means to have a market for high value-added products. And there are large industries, and in such highly developed areas as ship and auto industry, electronics. Someone is starving and someone is spending billions on foreign equipment.

So in North Korea they could not starve if their economy didn’t work for the atomic bomb and flying telegraph poles (which for some reason they call ballistic missiles), but stupidly, if only to increase the yield of rice, which Southerners, for some reason it grows and they share it with their Northern neighbor.

You are to blame for this, you divided this people into two camps, America has fulfilled its duty and made a rich high-tech state from poor South Korea, which has more GDP than your GDP, or is this not true? And you from the relatively developed North Korea made the poorest state, you did not fulfill your obligations that you took upon yourself, and you betrayed all your allies whom you believed that they were following you, you undermined the faith of your allies in you, and all your allies with humiliation came to the United States for help, and the United States and its allies got high from this.

        CATOBAR.
        Installations - gas turbine.
The carriers themselves will be of the Garibaldi type - that is, multifunctional with convertible areas.

However, these are plans. Now they are building their SuperDockdo - LPH-II, 1,5 times larger than Mistral.

And the Gulf monarchies bought them for Egypt - to solve the tasks of the monarchies with Egyptian hands. And Egypt itself on the coast has places where it’s easier to swim than to get there. Plus - problems with radical Islamists.

Nothing strange. France and China sent the F-35 by forest, with Turkey - also a bummer, Canada, Greece and Italy - too ... It is necessary to bet on those who stayed. And the occupied colonies remained - Japan and Korea

Carrier ships have long been the core of any navy. However, technological progress has only now lowered the entry threshold so much that they can be built by anyone who is not lazy.

Precisely that of any fleet of the great sea.
Without aircraft carrier (even a helicopter carrier) in the warrant, at dangerous times, the fleet simply can’t move far from the coast.

Well, at the expense of "all and sundry," you probably bent it. Maybe there are not many "lazy" people, but not everyone can afford it in terms of technical capabilities. Even the rich and technically advanced gentlemen from foggy Albion are not doing very well. What can we say about all sorts of nezalezhniks, the Baltics, and even Canada and Australia.

In this case, the technical aspect should not be overestimated, all the Malomorskie maritime states build them without problems, here the issue of state priorities is becoming more and more important.
Just the same, the British of those who always understood the importance of aircraft carriers for the fleet and fully invested in their development (regarding the total costs of the armed forces and the fleet as a whole).
As for Russia, the lack of aircraft-carrying ships (and at least some sane fleet as a whole) is caused by the need to maintain a large land army (primarily a continental power), poor trade development (never in history has our country been called a trading empire), the presence of ” unsinkable aircraft carriers ”of natural origin in all areas of interest.

Buying additional cars will cost Seoul another 3,3 billion dollars.
