DPRK's Latest SLBM: A Way to Raise Bids with Washington
You won’t praise yourself - you walk like spitting Congress
US President Trump made another stupid statement. He stated that "the country's nuclear forces have been completely modernized in recent years." And in general, once again he repeated the even greater nonsense that "the American armed forces and especially nuclear forces" became "more powerful than ever before and continue to grow stronger." And for a change, he said this not on Twitter, where there are hundreds of millions of fools and simpletons, and they will believe everything. And he said this at a ceremony in honor of the inauguration of the new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (OKNSh) of the US Armed Forces, General Miley (the paratrooper, who replaced the highly intelligent marine of Danford). That is, of course, there were enough people there who were aware of the situation with the Armed Forces in general, and with nuclear forces, and it was clearly difficult for them not to laugh at these words of the president. It’s sad to laugh.
In general, as the Mango-Mango group once sang: "We have such devices, but we won’t tell you about them!" What else can I say? Is it possible that Trump’s statement caused yet another storm of indignation among the US expert community, which in its entirety cannot be tolerated. But Trump can be understood - he needs to be re-elected, and here Ukraine is doing some nasty things, and a guy came from there, or wanted to give his stand-up show at a party in the White House, or a mime with a piano show, but generally requested money. And for this they are already trying to impeach in Congress. Need to do something. For example, telling voters about their achievements, real and imaginary.
And between them in China there was a large-scale parade dedicated to the 70 anniversary of the PRC, where, among other innovations, and, so to speak, “pseudo-novelties” (because there were much more profanity and prototyping at this parade than usual) those in the nuclear and non-nuclear field. A separate material will be devoted to the analysis of what was shown on the parade by real systems, and what was mock-up nonsense for blowing dust into the eyes, at least for a few of the most "vivid" specimens. In the meantime, there is no less interesting news.
"Polaris-3" from the Korean Peninsula
At the same time, the DPRK made its move in the rocket game, and very interesting. North Koreans first launched their new Pukkukson-3 SLBM. As already mentioned, this word in Korean means the same as in English Polaris, "Polar Star", the first American SLBMs were also called - a kind of trolling. In any case, for the first time it was precisely established that a new rocket was flying.
This was the first SLBM launch from an offshore platform since August 2016. The launch was made from an underwater submersible test platform off the Korean coast near Wonsan. The launch was carried out along a “short but high-altitude” trajectory, because, as has been said more than once, it is extremely difficult for North Koreans to test long-range missiles. The territory is small, and not like ours, where you can launch within your own territory at completely intercontinental ranges, and even from different directions and to different ranges from different places. Or the Chinese, who can at least experience 3-4 thousands inside their territory. In addition, the Korean Peninsula is "clamped" by states on all sides. Which will not allow launches over their territory. Of course, higher than 100 km there is already "common air", because there is already outer space, formally, states do not have the right to make claims for flying over their territories at this altitude. But you still need to climb these 100 kilometers and fly precisely over the territory, and not drop the “product”.
However, through the territory of Japan, the northerners fired precisely on this principle. But there is another problem - there are no means of monitoring the fields of fall at really great distances from the DPRK in the ocean. Need KIKi - ships command-measuring complex, need ships fleetto block the fall area, in general, a lot of what is needed. The northerners do not have all this yet, although they are working on this issue. Because they launch "far up and slightly far", which in terms of conversion allows you to get at least intercontinental ranges. But there are, however, nuances associated with a sore point for all the "young" countries (and for China, it seems, too) - with the return and entry of combat units into the atmosphere. With this start-up, the entry conditions are somewhat different. But the northerners do not have to choose, and therefore they use this option. And why the Chinese, who have all the capabilities, do not do this - the question is different.
A thousand kilometers up
The first launch took place at a distance of 450 km and with a maximum flight altitude at the top point of 910 km, which, if counted on a “normal” trajectory with a normal height, will give approximately 2000 km. The flight speed was 3,74 km / s, the angle of incidence was 81,5 degrees, and the flight time was 17 minutes.
The North Koreans declared this launch successful, and it was such, judging by the data of objective control of a number of neighboring countries (our Defense Ministry, as usual, will remain silent or give out data that differs from the generally accepted downward, as was the case with the DPRK launches of ICBMs - no one plays political games canceled).
The official message of CTC:
The test launch of a new type of ballistic missile was carried out at a high angle.
Through the test launch, the most important tactical technical indicators of the newly designed ballistic missile were scientifically and technically confirmed, and the test launch did not have any negative effects on the security of the surrounding countries.
The cadres of the party and the defense research industry, who supervised the on-site test run, reported on the results of the successful test run of the party Central Committee.
Dear senior leader Comrade Kim Jong-un, on behalf of the TPK Central Committee, sent warm and heartfelt congratulations to the defense research units participating in the test launch.
The successful test launch of a new type of ballistic missile from the Bukgykson-3 submarine, this time, is a significant success, which opened a new phase in containing the threat to the DPRK from outside forces and further developing the country's self-defensive military power.
What can be said about the rocket from its first images? First, it differs from the images of the future "Puccucon-2" that popped up on frames from the DPRK 3 a year ago. Either during this time the project was redone, or those pictures were misinformation - they reported the fact of development, without giving useful information. The new SLBM, of course, is solid fuel, and it is two-stage, as, indeed, the rest of the missiles of this series - SLBMs and IFRS. But it is much larger in size. Talking about the maximum range of the product is still meaningless, and the dimensions are not exactly known. On the footage received from the Koreans, there is nothing to be attached to for precise definition of dimensions. Yes, and the size of the silos on a boat of type 033 being reconstructed into SSBNs, which is obviously intended for a new product - we also don’t know how we don’t know if the only silo was remade on the DPRK test SSBN, the only one in service so far.
[center] The sequence of starting operations when launching using the method of "cold" (mortar) start is clearly visible

Perhaps the maximum range of the new SLBM will be up to 4 thousand km, but so far this is, in general, an assumption.
What is curious is the shape of the head fairing. It is she who differs from the picture that surfaced a couple of years ago. In that figure, there is a clear monoblock type warhead, as on previous missiles of this series, without visible signs of the presence of the simplest missile defense system. And here we see the head fairing, which, most likely, is intended for a missile with an RGM, or, say, for a monoblock, but with a relatively developed missile defense system. Well, are they ready in the DPRK to create separable warheads, at least, say, of a scattering type (without individual guidance, with simple dilution of blocks to compensate for guidance errors)? Soon, something will probably become clear here. And the rocket itself, in general, looks like a more modern product than its predecessor. Although, of course, the purely visual similarity, say, with the French SLBMs or the Tridents, says nothing, this is understandable.
Best to bargain by unfastening the strap on the holster
Why did the first launch of the new SLBM take place right now? Firstly, it is obvious that the product was already ready for this test, and they did not pull it. Secondly, Kim Jong-un Trump's famous promise extended to ICBMs and nuclear tests, and not to SLBMs (although SLBMs can also be of intercontinental range). Thirdly, negotiations between the DPRK and the USA at the level of working groups are soon beginning, or rather are resuming, and rumors are circulating that Americans who are "orphaned" without a mustached grandfather Bolton are ready to offer something more realistic than Uncle Johnny’s beloved’s. and disarm, and we will pat you on the shoulder. " It’s like lifting or freezing part of the UN sanctions in response to the freezing of uranium enrichment in Yongbyon with verification of the shutdown of the reactor. It at least makes sense to discuss and bargain. And the best bid position is strong.
