Fifth Type 055 destroyer for PLA Navy launched in Shanghai

In Shanghai, at the Jiangnan Changxingdao shipyard, the next large Type 055 destroyer was launched. This ship became the fifth renhai-class destroyer built for the PLA naval forces.

The destroyer launched in Shanghai became the fifth ship of this type, built for the PLA Navy. The construction of ships is carried out at two shipyards - in Shanghai and Dalian. The lead ship of the Nanchang series was built at Shanghai shipyards and was launched on the 28 of June 2017 of the year, the second ship in the series was also laid down in Shanghai and launched at the end of April of the 2018 of the year. In early July last year, simultaneously, two destroyers of the Type 055 project were launched in Dalian. Now the fifth one has been launched in Shanghai, another is being completed at the Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company (Group) (DSIC), and the date of its launching is still unknown.
Built for the interests of the Chinese Navy fleetThe Type 055 destroyers are quite large ships for their class. The displacement of ships is over 10 tons (full - over 000 tons), length exceeds 12 meters, width - 000 meters. The destroyers were built using stealth technologies and equipped with a gas turbine electric generator with a capacity of about 180 MW, which allows the use of even laser weapons. In addition, the ships are equipped with a Chinese combat system similar to the American Aegis.
The destroyers plan to launch launchers with a total capacity of 128 missiles of various types, one 130-mm artillery piece, several small-caliber rapid-fire gun mounts. The ship also has a hangar for two helicopters and a helipad.
