Croatian missile boat "Vukovar" caught fire during repairs
The incident happened at the facilities of the Iskra shipyard located in Sibenik. As noted, the fire began at a time when repair work was being carried out on the 1985 vessel of the assembly year.
The crew members present at the scene of the incident drew attention to the fire and, thanks to prompt action, dragged the ship worker out of the room where the repairs were being carried out. Sailors and arrived crews managed to extinguish the flame, according to a separate statement from the local fire department.
As a result of the accident, three people were hospitalized in a local hospital due to smoke poisoning. The fire caused property damage, as indicated in the defense department. An investigation into the causes of the incident has been launched.
Launched at the Finnish shipyard Vyartsilya “Vukovar” (FNS 62 Oulu), reaching a length of 45 m, was part of the local Navy before its sale to the Croatian the fleet in 2008. The boat belongs to the Helsinki type, its displacement is 300 tons. The main weapons are missiles RBS-15. In total, four vessels of this model were released, two of them were scrapped, two were sold by Croatia.
The country's Navy does not have large ships, the main striking power of the fleet is represented by missile and patrol boats of the Kral, Kochar, Helsinki and Mirna type. Vukovar is a city in eastern Croatia. This settlement was the scene of the fighting that followed the collapse of Yugoslavia.
