NATO Secretary General accuses Russia of creating missiles that violate INF Treaty
According to the Alliance’s Secretary General, Russia a few years ago began to develop banned INF missiles of medium-range, which in the secrecy regime it places on the European part of the country. At the same time, he once again blamed the termination of the INF Treaty on Russia, saying that it was Moscow that violated the provisions of the treaty and because of this the United States had to withdraw from it.
Stoltenberg said, adding that all NATO countries, together with the United States, called on Russia to return to compliance with the treaty and destroy its violating missiles, but Moscow refused to do this, thereby forcing Washington to withdraw from the INF Treaty.
- He emphasized, referring to some "independent intelligence", but, as usual, did not provide any evidence of this.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia would respond in a mirror to all US actions and deploy medium- and shorter-range missiles only in response to the deployment of American missiles. At the same time, he emphasized that Moscow would not participate in the new arms race.
