Russia will help India modernize the three Indian destroyers of the 15 project (such as Delhi) with regard to the Kashmir (Shtil) anti-aircraft missile systems and the Fregat-MAE radar systems. The corresponding agreement was signed by the Indian Ministry of Defense and the Russian Rosoboronexport. This is reported by the bmpd blog.
Russian specialists will modernize the Kashmir (Calm) anti-aircraft missile systems and the Frigate-MAE radar systems. According to available information, all work will be carried out in India with the involvement of local industry, which should supply components for the work. In total, the modernization will affect the three destroyers of the 15 project, which were designed in the 80 of the last century with the help of designers from the Northern Design Bureau. These ships have almost entirely Russian weapons and equipment.
It is assumed that during the modernization, the Frigate-MAE installed on board the radar ships will be replaced by the Frigate-M2EM three-coordinate radar station. In addition, the ships will be equipped with a more modern air defense system "Calm-1."
Currently, the Indian Navy has three missile destroyers of this class: Delhi, Mysore and Mumbai. The lead destroyer of Project 15 D61 Delhi was laid down at the Indian shipyard Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) in Mumbai in December 1992 and delivered to the Indian the fleet in 1997, and two other ships (D60 Maysor and D62 Mumbai) became part of the Indian Navy in 1999 and 2001, respectively.
Displacement of ships - 6200 tons, hull length - 163 meters, width - 17 meters. They reach speeds of up to 32 knots and a cruising range of 4500 nautical miles. Crew - 350 people.
