The US Air Force has revealed the official name for its new T-7A jet trainer, designated the Red Hawk, the Red Hawk.
As the Minister of the Air Force Matt Donovan explained, this nickname is intended to perpetuate the American pilots who fought in World War II and the ensuing conflicts. One of the renowned aviators was Colonel Charles McGee, who carried out 409 sorties during the 2 MB, Korean and Vietnam War. He and his comrades served in the Red Hawk Squadron. As indicated, they actively fought against racial restrictions, being the first African-American pilots.
The Tuskegee Pilots flying on the P-47 Thunderbolts and P-51 Mustangs were known for the bright red coloring of the aircraft tail, which remains in the unit to this day - on the F-16C aircraft of the 100 fighter squadron.
The name Red Hawk honors the legacy of the Tuskegee pilots and pays tribute to their original red-tailed airplanes from World War II ... This designation is also a tribute to the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, an American fighter that first flew in 1938
- noted Donovan.
Boeing won the TX contract a year ago in fierce competition. A total purchase of 351 machines is envisaged. T-7 is the prototype of the new model.
