The Northern Sea Route under the gun of the U.S. Navy submarine fleet. Cats and Mice in the Barents Sea

66
Uninteresting food for thought by expert communities and experts of the Northern Command fleet The Russian Navy has been providing a continuous stream of information on the details of the regular joint “ice” ICEX (“Ice Exercise”) naval exercises conducted by underwater components of the United States, Great Britain, Canada and Norway in the Beaufort Sea since 2003. In particular, over the past few years, the range of tasks performed in the framework of these exercises by American and British submarines has expanded significantly.

Preparations for the confrontation for control over the Arctic region and the Northern Sea Route are gaining momentum. Bet on the multi-purpose submarine component of the U.S. Navy

In addition to the development of the tasks typical for MAPL crews, consisting of finding submarines of a conditional enemy and delivering torpedo strikes against them using “practical” modifications of heavy American torpedoes Mk-48 Mod 5 ADCAP / Mod 7 CBASS and British Spearfish, in front of multipurpose sonar operators The nuclear submarines of the 3 and 4 generations of the Los Angeles classes (in the improved version of 688i / Flight III), Sea Wolf, Virginia, and Astute are more often tasked with much more specialized tasks. They consist in careful monitoring of the underwater space for the presence of ultra-low-noise submarines of the conditional enemy, operating on the “low speed” (in the “creeping up” mode), when their level of acoustic noise barely reaches 50 — 55 dB.

Even under favorable hydrological conditions (calm or minimal sea waves), this operation allows crews of modern ultra-low-noise MAPL Virginia Block I / II / III to evaluate in detail the capabilities of the AN / BQQ-10 intranasal sonar systems and the AN / BQG- side wide-aperture passive ASNs 5A on conditional direction finding of the most advanced Russian multi-purpose nuclear submarines at 885 Ave., Ash, the first of which (the lead K-560 Severodvinsk) was adopted by the Northern Fleet on 17 on June 2014 of the year, and the second, K-561 Kazan, about goes factory trials and is preparing to take up combat duty in the 2020 year. The same skills are also being worked out by the crews of the British MAPL Estuit, checking the limits of capabilities of the Type 2076 nasal sonar systems.

All of the above testifies only to one thing: the underwater components of the NATO Joint Naval Forces intensified the active phase of preparation for the upcoming cat and mouse game, and possibly the power dive with Russian multipurpose nuclear submarines of the Northern Fleet in the waters of the Norwegian and Barents Seas, as well as other seas of the arctic region. And the catch here is the only thing: the establishment of comprehensive control over the Northern Sea Route, as well as over the distant approaches to the strategically important Lomonosov Ridge. This is indicated by two more September large-scale naval exercises, “Cutlass Fury-2019” and “Arctic Expeditionary Capabilities Exercise-2019”, held in the North Atlantic region (near the Canadian provinces of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland), as well as the Aleutian Islands and South Alaska respectively. The most piquant moment is that the basis of the fundamentals in all the above maneuvers is precisely the multipurpose nuclear submarines, on which the main bets are made in the Pentagon and the British defense department. Why?

The answer here is obvious. Even the numerous surface component of the NATO Joint Naval Forces, represented mainly by the US Ticonderoga missile cruisers, Arleigh Burke Flight I / II / IIA class URF destroyers, the Daring Class 45 air defense destroyers and the Type 43 Duke highly specialized anti-submarine frigates, it will not be able to “break through” the echeloned anti-ship lines of the A2 / AD Murmansk, North-Yakut and Chukchi zones. These lines will be formed:

- dozens of batteries of coastal anti-ship systems “Ball”, K300P / S “Bastion-P / S”, multi-functional Su-30СМ fighters, which are part of three squadrons of the 279-th air regiment at the “Severomorsk-3” airfield and which are carriers of anti-ship missiles X- 35U "Uranus", as well as the supersonic anti-ship missiles X-31AD "Krypton", capable of performing anti-aircraft maneuvers at a speed of 2,1M and an overload of about 20G;

- long-range Tu-142М3 / М4 anti-submarine aircraft and Tu-22М3 long-range bombers, quickly deployed to the restored Tiksi Arctic airbase and equipped with X-35U and X-32 anti-ship missiles of many of the largest X-class missiles of the latest X-winged missile systems of the latest complex "Storm"; have a hypersonic speed of 22 km / h on the marching section of the trajectory, passing at heights from 5400 to 35 km);

- MiG-31K interceptors, also redeployed to Tiksi and carrying the latest X-47M2 Dagger anti-ship aeroballistic missiles with a range of about 2000-2500 km.

As you can see, for surface naval strike groups of the US Navy and the Royal Navy of Great Britain, access to the Barents, Kara and East Siberian seas, as well as the Laptev Sea is completely closed, which indicates the impossibility of establishing comprehensive control over the Northern Sea Route according to the concept implemented for example, in the waters of the Omani and Persian gulfs. For this reason, the four-star admirals of the American and British fleets consider multipurpose submarines of the Virginia and Estuit classes as the “strategic asset” in the erupted “Arctic race”.

Due to the extremely low acoustic signature (50 — 60 dB) achieved by the use of water-jet propulsion systems, the placement of a steam generating unit, the main turbo gear unit and a steam turbine installation on multi-tier damping platforms - “shelves”, as well as the use of a modern “anechoic” (sound-absorbing) coating of the submarine of classes “ Virginia Block I / II / III ”and“ Astute ”will become very serious opponents for the multipurpose nuclear submarines armed with the Northern Fleet, 885 Ave., 971 Pike-B Ave. , pr. 945 "Barracuda", pr. 945А "Condor" and pr. 671РТМК "Pike". And the root of the problem here lies not so much in the fact that almost all of the above classes of domestic multi-purpose nuclear submarines (except MAPL pr. 885) are significantly inferior to Virginia and Estuity in terms of acoustic stealth, as in the small number of multi-purpose nuclear submarine component of the Northern Fleet.

The acute shortage of ultra-low-noise multipurpose nuclear submarines of the 4 generation remains.

Regular patrolling of the Arctic seas by anti-submarine aircraft Il-38Н and Tu-142М3 of naval aviation of the Russian Navy will contribute to the temporary relief of this gap.

To date, the number of MAPLs of the above types that are in service with the Northern Fleet and are on combat duty is only 12 units; more 5 — 7 boards are at various stages of repair and updating of the electronic components of onboard electronic equipment (including the modernization of sonar equipment and terminals for displaying tactical underwater conditions and power plant operation parameters). Against this background, the US Navy and the British Navy can transfer about 15 Virginia MAPLs, more than 25 — 30 Los Angeles class MAPLs (including 10 — 15 upgraded aircraft, 688 Improved airplanes to the waters of the North Atlantic, the North Seas and the Arctic Ocean). ), 3 submarines “Seawolf” and 4 — 5 submarines “Estuity”.

As a result, we have a very disappointing 1 / 3 ratio. As a result of this, even the high sensitivity of the MGK-540 Skat-3 and MGK-600 Irtysh-Amfora-Yasen sonar systems (installed on the Yaseny and Pike-B), providing detection of American and British submarines in the first distant the acoustic illumination zone at a distance of 35 — 50 km will not allow us to compensate for the numerical superiority of enemy submarines, because in difficult hydrological conditions the effective range of these sonar stations will decrease to 5 — 10 km (in relation to m loshumnym enemy submarines 4-th generation).

Regular and intensive patrolling of the northern seas by several links of the IL-38Н and Tu-142М3 / 4 aircraft, which have several hundred passive directional and non-directional radio-acoustic buoys of RSL-48N-RSE-RSL and RSL-RBG will allow to partially cover this critical “gap”. 41 and active emitting buoys GB-36. Tactically calibrated and “tight” placement of even a few dozen of these buoys on the most unpredictable underwater sections of the seas of the Arctic region will allow to maintain fairly reliable control over the Northern Sea Route, minimizing the likelihood of the entry of ultra-low-noise American and British submarines even if the required number of multi-purpose submarines of the Ash class is temporarily absent and "Ash-M", located at various stages of construction.

For the first time, Russian raw materials will be transported to China without icebreaking support along the Northern Sea Route. According to experts, the beginning of regular trading on the NSR has begun, and the significance of this route will only grow. However, the "monopoly" position of Moscow in the waters washing the northern coast of Eurasia, they intend to challenge in Washington. The US insists that this transport artery should be international.

Have you read the article ??? Americans and associates will announce the international component of the NSR. Also, the UN will push them. And then all these MAPLs will sail. On the way will go some of their caravan, demonstrating the possibility of passage. And further, on the rise. After all, they understand that we have nothing to answer. Here is the author and reflects on how we will keep the answer.
And where are the Chinese ships? Our transported.

Ice is the main problem. The penetration of submarines of the adversary, and even more so surface ships throughout the entire length of the NSR, it will limit no worse than any weapon systems.

It must be emphasized that this was not only the first complex repair of the third-generation nuclear submarine, performed in the Far East, but also - a unique case - the submarine left the plant a year ahead of schedule. I would venture to suggest that there is no similar example for Omsk in the north, although those enterprises are objectively much stronger and in better conditions. This is the front side of the coin, but there is a flip side. Repair "Omsk" objectively went on the verge of trouble. - dozens of batteries of coastal anti-ship systems “Bal”, K300P / S “Bastion-P / S”, multi-functional fighters Su-30SM, which are part of the three squadrons of the 279th aviation regiment at the airfield “Severomorsk-3” and are carriers of anti-ship missiles X- 35U "Uranus", as well as supersonic anti-ship missiles X-31AD "Krypton"

    But what actually is:

"dozens" "Balls" are 4 launchers on the Sredny Peninsula in the Barents Sea. Of course, they will easily overwhelm Norwegian boats if they carry the troops from Varanger Fiord to Pechenga, but nothing more.

"Bastion" - 8 launchers (two divisions) on the Kola Peninsula and 4 launchers on Kotelny Island. The first ones cover Murmansk from the landing. The latter cover the approach to Tiksi from the Laptev Sea, if the enemy tries to send there an icebreaker with an assault force (subject to the presence of a Tu-142 or a Ka-31 target designation helicopter), it is exaggerated to call it the defense of the entire NSR.

Su-30SM fighters. The Su-30SM are not the carrier of the Kh-35U, they currently have only the Kh-31A (the Kh-31AD is not yet supplied). The range of the Kh-31A against a destroyer-type target is 50 km, and a missile boat-type target is 25 km. Taking into account that "Daring" is a stealth form, "Burke" - with a reduced EPR, then we consider the range for "Daring" - 25 km, for "Burke" - 40 km. Launching only from a high altitude, requires preliminary capture of the radar. For comparison, the firing range of "Astera" and "Standard" is 120 and 160 km with multichannel up to 20 fired targets. The Su-30SM aircraft are not three squadrons, but only one - the 3rd squadron of the 279 IAP (the 1st and 2nd squadrons of the 279 IAP are carrier-based aircraft Su-33). This third squadron currently has exactly two Su-30SM aircraft. Imagine two planes that need to fly about a hundred kilometers under fire from an enemy destroyer. With suspended "Kryptons" they certainly will not be able to fly, much less perform maneuvers at a speed of 2M.

Tu-142 - a total of eighteen aircraft at the Kipelovo airfield. RCC they do not carry. They can pose a threat to the enemy’s icebreaker as target indicators, think of it sticking closer than 300 km to the aforementioned Kotelny island, or if SF missile ships will patrol along the NSR. To combat submarines throughout the NSR, the number is certainly not enough.

IL-38 - eight aircraft in Severomorsk-1 in the suburbs. Given the combat radius of 2200 km further from the Barents Sea, they are not of interest. Dangerous only to pl in the southern Barents Sea.

Tu-22M3 - ten pieces in Olenegorsk. Due to the strong obsolescence of the X-22 missile, they are not a threat to warships. Due to the small combat radius of about 1500 km, icebreakers in the Kara Sea continue to pose no threat either.

So, for example, in the third series of Virgins (Illinois Square, 13 Corps), the manufacturer abandoned GTZA as one of the main sources of noise and switched to a full electric movement scheme by installing a GED with a power of 30ty.s. .... Also with in order to reduce noise, the hydraulic actuators of the actuators are changed to electric ... This eliminates pumps as one of the sources of noise.

There is only the name "Northern Sea Route" and no one uses it yet, except our country, but the long polar nights promise to be hot and will be illuminated by a million flares, and the polar penguins will soon become hot because world geopolitics begins to concentrate in the Barents Sea, all countries will want sail along the mighty Northern Sea Route. As these great caravan routes have already gotten tired of - either along the railway, or on the highways that no one uses, now the great northern sea route has also been added.

will become very serious opponents for the multipurpose nuclear submarine cruisers armed with the Northern Fleet, 885 Ave. . AND the root of the problem here, it’s not so much that almost all of the above classes of domestic multi-purpose nuclear submarines (except MAPL pr. 885) are significantly inferior to Virginia and Estuity in terms of acoustic stealth, how many small numbers of multipurpose nuclear submarine component of the Northern Fleet.

    NONSENSE
the root of the problem is the practically UNSUFFICIENT in real combat conditions marine underwater weapons (and anti-torpedo protection means) of our submarines

Regular patrolling of the Arctic seas by anti-submarine aircraft Il-38Н and Tu-142М3 of naval aviation of the Russian Navy will contribute to the temporary relief of this gap.

41 buoys - "the same eggs, only in profile" as 16

Even under the Soviet Union, there were 3-5 multipurpose submarines of the US and British navies in the Barents Sea with the task of monitoring the actions of the Soviet Northern Fleet and, in the event of the outbreak of hostilities, to prevent the deployment of the SN missiles. The submarine forces of the United States and Great Britain have been conducting exercises "Sub Issex" since at least 1987 (they received intelligence reports in the autonomous region). They also climbed into the Kara Sea. And surfacing in ice has also been practiced for a long time. In 1986 on TV there was a story about the ascent of 3 submarines of the "Sturgeon" type in the North Pole region. And "getting stuck" in the ice is a delusion of our media, as a rule, absolutely incompetent.

Air patrol? This is not always possible due to the weather. This is still the North. As an amateurish option - in the pre-war period, the mining of threatened directions by anti-submarine mines from auxiliary vessels dispersed in advance at the right points.

Before discussing the current state of affairs, remember the recent story for us: how did the Nazis deliver goods and people to the islands in the Arctic - did they ask us? How many bases did they have there? during WWII, did we know about this? or learned after the fact?
Therefore ... yachts of Abramovich and Usmanov and others, pass to the nuclear submarines, at least.
and then we are all pushing and singing - Our Arctic ...

Without installing a system of hydrophones at the bottom, either along the entire sea route, or partially in sections, it is impossible to effectively resist the underwater threat, it is impossible to respond to it quickly, as no ships and aircraft can detect a boat under the ice, only a submarine or hydrophone installed on bottom and connected to the coastal base.

The problem is that you can’t send several links of the Il-38N to the SF. Just because we have them, EMNIP, only 8 pieces for the entire Navy.

Alexey. Well, it's Damantsev. There, in the Murmansk, North Yakut and Chukotka zones, he also has dozens of batteries of the Bal, K300P / S Bastion-P / S coastal anti-ship complexes, incl. and stationary (especially in the northern Yakutsk zone, in the permafrost zone, stationary, dug into the ground "Bastions"), he has as many as 3 squadrons of Su-30SM there (which are part of three squadrons of the 279th aviation regiment at the Severomorsk-3 airfield "And are carriers of the Kh-35U" Uran "anti-ship missile system, as well as the supersonic anti-ship missiles Kh-31AD" Krypton ") in the 6000 km zone, he also has TU-142 long-range missiles, of which there are as many as 24 in the entire Russian Navy pieces, including 10 reconnaissance aircraft, there are also TU-22M3, which were promptly transferred to the restored Arctic airbase "Tiksi" and equipped with the Kh-35U and Kh-32 anti-ship missiles. the last time on the use of anti-ship missiles. It also has MiG-31K interceptors, also relocated to the Tiksi and carrying the latest X-47M2 Dagger anti-ship aeroballistic missiles (although there are only a dozen of such aircraft, and all of them are involved in the ongoing testing of these missiles). so the fact that the IL-38N is only 8 pieces should not worry you good

An article about anything, but not about the Northern Sea Route. The Northern Sea Route is icebreaking support and bunkering in ports. The Northern Sea Route is a transit corridor of foreign ships from Asia to Europe, to which the infrastructure is located, which is located on the territory of the Russian Federation. What are the submarines, what kind of sight, which cat and mouse? The author is raving. Is someone going to drown Russian icebreakers and blow up ports? What are you talking about ?! The only question in all of this is whether the foreign shipowner will go along this route or not, fearing / not fearing Fincen sanctions and the cost of transportation, that’s all.

Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin said what to do about this when, as Prime Minister in 2010, he signed the "Strategy for the development of maritime activities of the Russian Federation until 2030". "Creation of the Unified State System of Surface and Underwater Situation Illumination (EGSSPO) in the exclusive economic zone of the Russian Federation. That is, to cover the zone with physical fields of domestic information systems." There is even a plan, it is in the public domain, the Appendix to this Strategy. Only nobody knows about it. Even those who are in charge. And because the head is big, the national center, but this head has neither eyes nor ears in the Arctic.
