The British self-propelled artillery mount FH77 BW L52 Archer (Archer) has become modular. As transmits "Warspot" With reference to the portal ukdefencejournal.org.uk, the manufacturing company BAE Systems introduced a new version of the howitzer.

British "Archer" got a modular design

The new version of the Archer self-propelled howitzer was able to be mounted on various chassis, which, according to manufacturers from BAE Systems, will allow the customer to choose a car that is more suitable for his needs. At the DSEI 2019 exhibition in London, the Archer was shown on a Rheinmetall RMMV HX2 8 × 8 truck chassis, while the basic version of the self-propelled gun was based on the Volvo A30 6 × 6 (for the Swedish army).

Archer's modularity makes it a cost-effective solution providing critical capabilities on the battlefield. This new international version of ARCHER can be easily integrated into various chassis, allowing the customer to choose the car that best suits his needs.

- said in BAE Systems Weapon Systems.

The FH77 BW L52 Archer self-propelled howitzer in the basic version is an 155-mm towed FH77 howitzer mounted on a Volvo A30D truck chassis. There is the possibility of direct fire. Additionally armed with a remotely controlled combat module mounted on the roof of the truck cab. The speed on the highway is up to 70 km / h, the crew is 3-4 people. The deployment and collapse time on the position - 30 sec.

For some reason, it seemed to me that it was a Swedish system.

It seemed right to you. There were several orders for it from Norway and Croatia, but refused. Norway in general, the Croats preferred the German PzH 2000. The fact that this is also English information was not anywhere

If you look at the location of the head office, then yes, this is a British company. And so TNCs in their purest form.
From South Africa to Scandinavia, from USA to India

Then it’s not clear why they didn’t get confused with the modules right away, request because there are different customers, including very moody, but with money.

Well, initially it was a car for specific Scandinavian users: Sweden, Norway and Finland. Then they started playing with the owners. Initially, Bofos developed it. then it was divided, and the resulting absorbed BAE.

At the same time, a circus with supplies began. Norway refused, Finland refused, and for this Sweden abandoned the Finnish self-propelled mortars, Sweden itself sat for several years without artillery at all (FH77B was removed from service, the latter were withdrawn from circulation in 2011. And the first serial "Archers" appeared at the end of 2014. Moreover, before the complete re-equipment as before Beijing to this day)

Modules, shmodules ... There is no difference, the market in this segment was actually captured by the French. For example, the Danes bought the Caesars instead of the Archers, whom they were initially interested in. Let this be the previous generation in terms of characteristics, but the supplier is reliable.
And who has little money, he sculpts himself ... In the style of "Caesar". Fortunately, there is nothing particularly complicated there.

A very important point, but, you know, there were precedents ... Yes

When developing the Archer self-propelled guns, the need to reduce the time to prepare for shooting and leave the position was taken into account. As a result, a self-propelled gun can make part of the preparations for firing on the way to the position, so the first shot is fired after 30 seconds after stopping at the desired point on the route. During this time, the outrigger descends and the tower is brought into a fighting position. hi

      Normal time.
Most likely, hanging outriggers takes the most time.

What, even adjustments for aiming will not be? just stopped and fired?
as for me, it’s more important to quickly shoot and reel fishing rods than to turn around quickly.

A year ago I saw a video with such a "self-propelled gun". I was very impressed with how she approached the position, turned around very quickly, made a couple of shots, quickly reeled up the fishing rods and dumped.

Very cool and very fast, but I personally am confused by the wheelbase and not 4 points of support (paws). Will it withstand continuous firing of 155mm shells?
