Shoigu was awarded the highest award of the Order of Malta
The award ceremony took place today at the Italian Embassy in Moscow. The head of the Moscow region region, who was at the forefront of creating the EMERCOM of Russia and leading it for more than 20 years, was congratulated by the Italian Ambassador to Russia Antonio Zanardi Landi and the Prince and Grand Master of the Order of Malta, Matthew Festing.
"It was decided to award Sergei Shoigu with a big cross in recognition of his contribution to the development of the Russian Emergencies Ministry and the role he played in helping. This award recognizes his contribution to strengthening ties, friendship and cooperation between Russia and the Order of Malta," said Matthew Festing.
He expressed confidence that the case that Sergei Shoigu began would develop "for the benefit of the suffering and needing help."
Sergey Shoigu expressed his gratitude "for such a high assessment to the EMERCOM of Russia team".
“These relations (between the Order of Malta and the Ministry of Emergency Situations), which took shape when I had the opportunity to work as the head of the ministry, will be continued and multiplied. This will allow us to render even greater assistance to those who need it,” noted Shoigu.
He assured that the new position will not depart from the principles that guided being the head of the Emergencies Ministry. "I continue today the activities that I started many years ago, but now in a new capacity," said Shoigu.
The main focus of the Maltese Knights is charity, which they do in 120 countries, including hot spots. The Order’s programs include, in particular, medical assistance and social support, including for the elderly and the disabled, humanitarian assistance for victims of armed conflicts and natural disasters. The main task of the Order vividly reflects his motto - "Protect the faith and serve the poor."
