USA to supply 500 light armored vehicles M1278A1 Heavy Guns Carrier to Lithuania
The U.S. Department of Defense Military Cooperation Agency sent a notice to the U.S. Congress about the upcoming upcoming sale of 500 light armored vehicles to Lithuania by JLTV. This supply has already been approved by the US State Department and is estimated at 170,8 million dollars.
The vehicles planned for delivery to Lithuania will be equipped with M153 Common Remote Weapon Stations (CROWS) remotely controlled combat modules with 12,7-mm M2 QCB machine guns and round-the-clock M230 TAC-FLIR sighting systems. The agreement provides for the supply of spare parts for armored vehicles and training of personnel of the Lithuanian army.
In Lithuania, they confirmed their intention to acquire American armored cars, but stated that they would like to purchase only 200 of such vehicles. This was announced on August 28 by the Deputy Minister of National Defense of Lithuania Gedrimas Jeglinskas.
- he said.
It was previously reported that Lithuania intends to allocate about 2020 million euros during the 2024-142 period for the purchase and maintenance of 200 JLTV machines. Negotiations on the purchase of JLTV have been conducted by Lithuania with the American side since the end of the 2017 year.
Lithuania is likely to become the second foreign customer of JLTV machines after Slovenia, as previously these machines were supplied only to the US Army.
