In Mongolia, a four-meter monument to George Zhukov was erected
According to the report, in the Mongolian regional center of Halkin-Gol, Russian specialists from Irkutsk completed the installation of a monument to the Soviet commander Georgy Zhukov, who in 1939 commanded an offensive operation of the Soviet and Mongolian forces against the Japanese invaders, which ended in the complete defeat of Japan.
- said in a statement.
The agreement to erect a monument to Marshal Zhukov in Mongolia was reached during a meeting last year between the Mongolian President Khaltmaagiin Battulga and the Governor of the Irkutsk Region, Sergey Levchenko. The parties agreed that an author’s copy of the monument will be installed in Khalkin-Gol, which is installed in the Solnechny microdistrict in Irkutsk.
Recall that the military conflict near the Halkin-Gol River, which divided Mongolia and Manzhou, started on May 11 of 1939 and ended on September 16 of that year with the complete defeat of the 23 Infantry Division of the 6 Separate Army of Japan, as a result of which an armistice was signed between the USSR and Japan. The final phase of the offensive was commanded by Georgy Zhukov, who was appointed commander of the Soviet troops and attached to the Mongol cavalry on 6 on June 1939.
It is reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin will arrive on the 80 anniversary of the victory of Soviet and Mongolian troops at the Halkin-Gol River.
