The case of the brave: special costumes for superheroes

Modern workwear is capable of much. Every day, it rescues employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and other special services from mechanical damage, open flames, toxic acids and deadly radiation. How to create special suits and what loads they are able to withstand? Answers to these questions were sought by the crew of the Polygon program of the TV channel T24.

Fireproof

Modern fire fighting clothing is a range of high-tech products. They help to fight not only with fire, there are costumes that can withstand aggressive acids and even deadly radioactive radiation.

At the heart of the standard fire equipment BOP-1 - overalls and jacket. The hands, feet and head of a fireman are protected by gloves, boots and a helmet. The total weight of all 10 uniforms kg, and if you add to this all the necessary equipment for the fire fighter, the equipment weight can reach up to 50 kg With such a load, firefighters occasionally have to climb stairs of buildings engulfed in fire. That is why modern equipment does not hamper movement. The ergonomic fit makes the boom comfortable: you get the feeling that you are wearing a regular jacket. Each batch of suits passes a harsh test drive on a mannequin equipped with temperature sensors. The test simulates the situation when a fireman opens the door to a burning room, and a column of fire breaks out. Fighting must resist open flame for 7 seconds. The team of the “Polygon” program of the TV channel “T24” personally observed the experiment, when the equipment of the BOP-1 was in the hot ring of powerful gas burners. As a result of the test drive, the strike did not catch fire; moreover, it did not receive any damage at all, although the thermal sensors on the dummy showed temperatures from 50 ° to 60 °. It turns out that even when meeting with a stream of flame, a firefighter should not fear for their lives. And all thanks to modern insulating material.

In addition to combat, the fireman’s gear includes a helmet made of refractory plastic with thermal insulation, boots with an anatomical insole and a metal pad - to protect the fireman’s feet from being punctured with a nail or a piece of glass, as well as gloves made of Kevlar threads - a polymeric material used in the manufacture of body armor.

Chemically resistant

Of course, in a fire, you can encounter various chemicals, but if the accident occurred at a hazardous production, other protective suits, thermoaggressive-resistant, are used. Their feature is absolute tightness and durability, because the concentration of toxic substances in the accident zone sometimes exceeds the limit, and even a miniature hole on the fabric can be a serious danger to the life of a fighter. Therefore, prior to operation, each suit must be checked for tightness without fail: they are connected to an air cylinder and inflated like a balloon, and if the suit is a little poison, pressure sensors will immediately show this. In case of accidents at nuclear facilities, firefighters can also use this equipment. The only difference is that firefighters will first have to put on lead plates that can protect important organs from radiation.

To extinguish burning oil, a foil heat-reflecting suit with a porthole is used. The foil material, like a mirror, reflects infrared heat radiation and allows the fireman to stay at 20 ° for 800 seconds!

Height differences are not afraid

One of the dangers that awaits pilots in the sky is vertical overloads caused by temperature differences and discharged air, which are often simply impossible to breathe. In such an environment it is very easy to lose consciousness. To prevent this from happening, special anti-overload fighter suits were invented. The model is a suit of heat-resistant fabric with stitched cameras and tubes. When airplanes perform maneuvers and aerobatics at supersonic speed, air is blown through these tubes, which inflates the suit. The tissue compresses the pilot's body and prevents blood from flowing out of the head. The suit automatically works, since all its sensors are connected to the aircraft's computer.

Exoskeleton and active disguise system

At the moment, the designers of the life support system for the combat equipment of servicemen are developing passive and active exoskeletons. Passive allow you to reduce the pressure of equipment on the fighter, active - to increase the strength and speed of the soldier. This is essentially a robotic suit, driven by a human brain. Another system that allows you to make a real revolution on the battlefield is the system of active disguise, which will independently change color depending on the landscape and time of day. So far, all the nuances of development are a military secret, but it is known that it is based on the ability of various materials to change their color under the influence of electric current. Once again, advanced technologies prove to us that nothing is impossible!

Special costumes are understandable, this is reality .... when on the battlefields, wherever it is dangerous to "run only costumes" without biological content, it will be a completely different era! the era of cybernetics .......

With the advent of graphene, superstrong costumes of cinema superheroes have ceased to be a fairy tale.

And graphene in body armor use?

Although the production of graphene leaves the stage of laboratory research around the world, whether there is graphene in body armor or not, I did not come across such data.

The main thing that began to use metallopena based on titanium alloys, including in armored vehicles.
