Destroy the “Namer” hand grenade
The topic about the uselessness of heavy armored personnel carriers caused so many responses (a record among my publications) that I decided to continue this topic, with a shift to more specific realities. Quite often it was said that TBTR, such as “Timer,” are effective in combat conditions in dense urban areas and therefore Israelis are suitable. In my opinion, this is absolutely not the case, and all the successes of the Tsakhal in operations in the Gaza Strip are almost exclusively associated with the incredible tactical weakness of their opponents - the Hamas militants. They did not bother to study the experience of previous wars in order to work out effective tactics for their very limited means. In fact, the Palestinians did not learn to fight, which is very strange in the light of their situation.
Therefore, I propose to conduct a kind of tactical game for Hamas. TVD is the same Gaza Strip. A set of weapons - the same as theirs. The goals of the game are to kick the Israelis in the ass, that is, to cause them significant losses in manpower and equipment, since the Palestinians can hardly count on a complete military victory, while it is quite possible to achieve some cooling in the fervor of the Israelis. The difference is that the game is based on the extensive experience of wars, on the basis of which specific tactics are developed.
This game will show that heavy armored personnel carriers are not worth anything against a tactically savvy enemy, and at the same time they will show why you need a thorough study of military experience, which some hotheads declare as "preparation for the last war."
Sharpened shovel
"Tsahal" has an overwhelming superiority in technology, ground and aviationwhile the Palestinians have neither tanks, no aviation, and is not expected. What can be set against this power? In the fight against a technically superior opponent, ... correctly, a shovel is used. As comrade Ho Chi Minh taught, the defenders must rely on a system of earthen fortifications: trenches, trenches, underground passages.
If there were truly evil and determined people, such as the Viet Cong partisans, who were distinguished by a particularly burning desire to make the life of the invaders interesting and short, instead of good Arabs - Hamasits, they would have dug the whole Gaza down and down. Trenches and slots, plain and covered with concrete slabs, are absolutely necessary for both combat operations and for sheltering civilians from air strikes and shelling. The Viet Cong would, in addition to the trenches, have dug out a second Gaza under Gaza, only an underground one with all the necessary accessories. The Cu Chi fortification area in Saigon occupied an area around 720 square. km, while the Gaza Strip is smaller - 365 square. km
The system of underground tunnels gives advantages to the defenders. First, the shelter from airstrikes. Secondly, the ability to set up a large number of covered and disguised firing points. Thirdly, the ability to quickly and safely maneuver forces and their concentration on threatened areas; as well as the possibility of rapid dispersal and retreat after the battle.
Therefore, without building a system of trenches and underground tunnels, one cannot count on any result in a clash with the Israelis. In built-up areas, especially on their outskirts (part of the territory of the Gaza Strip is used for agriculture), this system should be particularly dense, since the main battles are fought right here. "Tsahal" can not move the fighting inside the building, if not mastered the outskirts of built-up areas.
Tunnels can be laid in a pick-and-hook method, the benefit of the population of the Gaza Strip allows it. But this requires specialists who possess at least the basics of surveying. The excavated land can be used to fill a system of shafts along the border with Israel, to make it more difficult for armored vehicles to maneuver off-road. A sufficiently high, well-rammed and scarped shaft is a serious obstacle for tanks and armored vehicles. In the shafts can also be arranged moves, firing points and observation points - the front line of defense. In shafts, the narrowness can be traps, land mines or ambushes, if conditions allow.
A sharply-honed shovel gives Palestinians another advantage. Israeli vehicles all, as on the selection, heavy, 60-70 tons of weight. For them, you can dig up the following trap. Under the road, on the most probable routes of the Israelis, a passage is dug under the ground, at the end of which an underground chamber approximately 1,5 meters wide, about 10 meters long and about 1,5 meters high, is excavated under the road, so that its arch is in meter or just over the surface of the road. If a tank, an armored vehicle or a bulldozer drives a caterpillar into this trap, then due to the large weight of the vehicle, it will fall into it. The failed caterpillar will lose its support and the technique will sit on the belly. To pull it out, you need a tractor.
As the Israelis pull the car out of the hole, their movement will slow down or even stop, and it will be possible to fire at the soldiers who have fallen into the trap of the armored vehicle scurrying around. Traps can be built in advance, and in peacetime, be reinforced with braces that are removed during the threatened period.
Add more explosives
The experience of a number of wars convincingly testifies that even the most protected armored vehicles cannot resist the landmine of sufficient power. The charge in about 150-180 kg of TNT causes heavy damage to the tank, requiring factory repair. The charge in 900-1000 kg destroys any tank, so that the tower flies away. For powerful land mines it is better to use ammonium nitrate, pure or mixed with diesel fuel (igdanite), the TNT equivalent of which is 1,3-1,6. In charging chambers, saltpeter explodes better than just in a pile. In addition, it is easier to get it than trotyl or other military explosives, which is very important in the conditions of limited capabilities of the Palestinians.
Since the Israelis, for obvious reasons, are primarily trying to seize roads and intersections, you can mine the most important roads and intersections (more precisely, interchanges, in the Gaza Strip many difficult intersections with three or more roads) with powerful land mines. The method is the same: a tunnel under the road and the device beneath it of a charging chamber packed with explosives. The camera is smaller in volume than the trap, because it can be arranged closer to the surface of the roadway and reinforced its arch with a strut. The camera can be equipped in advance or during the threatened period.
As soon as the enemy vehicles assembled at the mined intersection, a charge is detonated from the observation point. In addition to damaged equipment, killed and shell-shocked soldiers, the explosion forms a rather large funnel, which the Israelis will have to either go around or fall asleep, which takes time.
Since Tsahal has georadars, it is advisable to lay on shovels and dig up also false blasting chambers. It is very difficult to quickly determine which of them is charged and which is not; searches will take time and cause a slowdown in their overall progress. False cameras can then be equipped.
Volley on the sides
Bomb traps and traps can bring the Israelis tangible trouble, but still can not solve the entire tactical problem. To arrange only on the main roads and intersections landmines, will require several hundred tons of ammonium nitrate. Get so much very difficult. In addition, it is not always possible to use them effectively, for the reason that Israeli armored vehicles are actively maneuvering. If you managed to get Israeli tankers to fly in the explosion of a powerful landmine - well, but you need something else.
Relying on an RPG, for all its familiarity, does not always produce a good result either. Due to the fact that when a grenade launcher is fired from behind, a cloud of hot gases is formed, the choice of positions for anti-tankists is already limited by this. Their positions should also be subtle, protected with something and provide a possibility of withdrawal after the shot, for the Israelis will try to respond. For these reasons, there are very few places suitable for any effective RPG shooting.
To this it is worth adding that the built-up areas of the Gaza Strip, especially along the roads, is a maze of houses, courtyards, narrow side streets, and finding a position in them where the X-NUMX anti-tank player with RPG-7 would be rather difficult . Along the streets there may be extended areas in which the use of RPG-30 is excluded, and these areas are practically safe for passing Israeli armored vehicles.
Meanwhile, the streets - the very place for the destruction of tanks and heavy armored personnel carriers. The width of even the main roads in the building of Gaza does not exceed 20 meters, the equipment is severely limited in maneuver, close to homes, and indeed the whole army is pulled into a long column, vulnerable to firing into the board, which is weaker on the Merkava and Nomerah frontal projection. In such a narrow space, the system of protecting tanks from grenades does not actually work; radar do not have time to capture the target. In general, the task. Streets - the best place in Gaza for attacking armored vehicles, but RPGs can not be used there or it is very difficult.
In order to hit tanks and armored personnel carriers in the narrow streets of Gaza, it is possible to propose the use of a disposable trigger device. This is an iron pipe of suitable diameter, one end of which is welded. The pipe for the most part of the length is poured into a sufficiently massive reinforced concrete block to make something like a gun. Inside, an expelling charge of gunpowder or ammonium nitrate is laid (to ignite it, a side tube is protruded to the breech of the pipe, protruding from the unit through which the electric fuse is pushed), and a grenade from the RPG without a jet engine is laid in front of it. Then a hole is made in the wall of the house along the diameter of the pipe; the pipe in it is installed in such a way that its edge does not protrude outside. Outside, the hole can be masked by gluing it with a poster or a piece of paper painted the color of the wall.
Since the dimensions of the onboard projection of the Merkava and Namera are well known, these launchers are set at such a height that a shot from them could hit certain parts of the machine. 175 cm from the road - the defeat of the gap between the hull and the tower, 150 cm - the defeat of the treadmills, for example, a weakly protected exhaust port on the starboard, 80-120 cm - the defeat of the drive wheel, the sloth, tracks. It is advisable to put such launchers in groups, 5-8 units, placing them at different heights or with a slight convergence, in order to hit a certain part of the tank with a volley. The distance shot 5-10 meters, the slip is almost eliminated. The operator is located at the observation point, from where the road is clearly visible. He has a sight, marking the zone of destruction. As soon as the tank caught up with the reticle, the operator presses a button, and the tank gets a simultaneous salvo at the board with several anti-tank grenades.
The idea of a starting device is not new, and is taken from the Nazi arsenal. Its prototype is the German bomber Raketenwerfer 61, mounted on the chassis of the "Tiger". I only adapted it slightly to the military-industrial capabilities of the Palestinians.
A good idea? Not bad But it can be modified and Israeli armored vehicles with something heavier. For example, an 120-mm mortar mine weighing 16,2 kg with a charge 3,9 kg of TNT. It is charged in a starting device of the same design, only with an increased expelling charge. Simultaneous hitting the board of the Merkava 5-8 with such mines will cause heavy damage to the tank, at least deprive it of its progress. It will take a long time to fit a tractor to a damaged tank and take it in tow.
In such a starting "guns" you can charge everything that comes to hand: cumulative grenades, mortar shells, artillery shells, missiles. Even a steel shot can be dangerous for armored vehicles. Nevertheless, the expelling charge gives the projectile a very decent speed, and it’s not far to fly.
On the scale of the whole mess such launchers can be used, as far as imagination is enough, available resources and hatred for unwelcome aliens. Entire streets along the entire length can be filled with starting slots, on both sides. Starting nests can be placed in the corner houses at intersections, and arrange for the Israelis gathered in this place, an impressive round-up fire. If the pavement or its absence allows, a battery of such launchers can be installed in small wells drilled on the road, so that they shoot vertically from the bottom up into the bottom of the tank. It is unlikely that the Merkava designers counted on a simultaneous salvo of 5-10 cumulative grenades at the bottom of the tank from a clearance distance.
Throw grenades and napalm
Now the most interesting thing is the destruction of the TBTR “Namer” with a hand grenade. This opportunity derives from the Israeli tactics reflected in the design of the armored vehicle.
The idea of maximally protecting the landing force from enemy fire led not only to the creation of a heavy machine, but also to the fact that the designers had to confine themselves to only one stern hatch for the landing force. In many photographs, it is clearly visible: a massive steel plate, flip down, and the opening of the hatch. From this it follows that the landing requires some time to get out of the car, turn around in a chain or column and get ready for battle. In my estimation - a minute or a half. If you land under fire, then they can riddle them for this minute. For this reason, “Namer” should land in the safe zone, where there is no shelling.
This is an Israeli armored personnel carrier "Eitan", but with the same features of the aft hatch as the Armored Personnel vehicle. The photo clearly shows that the landing cannot leave to fight when leaving the car: you need to bend down, cross the threshold, take two steps along the ramp and then run a few more steps along the ground to make room for others. The corridor severely restricts the outlook to the landing party at the exit, while on the side it can be waited by enemy arrows and grenadiers.
Second moment. Since the Israeli infantry doesn’t like to run under fire at all, the landing site must be in the depth of the enemy’s formation, not far from the intended target for an infantry attack, a building or an important position that is of key importance for the entire tactical operation. From this it follows that "Namer", by virtue of the tactics for which it was created, landed infantry in an area where there could be arrows or anti-tankists of the enemy around them, and they had the opportunity to fire "Namer" into the stern.
Feed is the most vulnerable projection of “Namera”. The plate covering the landing hatch is quite large and thick. Judging by the photos, about 10 cm thick. Such an RPG armor player breaks confidently from any distance. KAZ can not hang it. The corridor with the hatch in the stern of the “Namara” is clearly visible from afar, and helps the anti-tank player take aim.
Further - more curious. If the “Timer” began to disembark the landing party and opened the aft hatch, and an RPG with an RPG sits behind it, then the situation becomes interesting. Aiming, exciting moment, shot ... A grenade flies inside the Namera and explodes there. The result is clear: the death of all the troops and the crew, the destruction of the car.
In the landing zone, there may also be battle groups armed with machine guns and a large number of hand grenades. Their task is to wait until the “Namer” opens the hatch and begins to disembark the assault forces, and then attack the paratroopers with a dense assault rifle and volley-throwing hand grenades. When the released paratroopers are beaten, the grenadiers throw closer to the armored car and throw grenades inside. The weight of the hatch, if it is made of steel plate, is about a ton. It must be opened and closed hydraulically, so you cannot close it quickly. A quick attack can achieve phenomenal success and destroy “Inmera” with hand grenades alone. In order to “Namer” finally become scrap metal, it is advisable to throw a few incendiary bottles inside after defeat.
Speaking of incendiary bottles. With their help, the Israeli infantry can be given a particularly warm welcome. In the Soviet arsenal of the war there were explosive incendiary barriers. It was a pit, at the bottom of which lay an explosive charge of explosives, and on top lay several dozen or hundreds (the pit could be a rather long trench) of incendiary bottles. The pit was covered with earth to disguise. The explosion led to the release of a large cloud of burning napalm drenching tanks and trucks passing by. In the disembarking zone, three or four such pits can be arranged, aimed at the place where the armored personnel carrier is likely to stop. Next you just need to wait until the landing leaves, and press the button. The rest will finish the group of grenadiers.
How to find the place where the “Namer” will land the landing? This is relatively simple. There are not so many such places in the dense development of Gaza, and they can be found at the planning stage of a defensive operation. In addition, the “Timer” can be driven to the place where he was prepared for the meeting. For this, a place is left that is deliberately not fired (there are only observers and battle groups), and all other places advantageous for dismounting are fired. Having rotated under fire, “Timer” will sooner or later arrive at the place of the last stop prepared for him.
As you can see, the application of the experience of past wars, combined with some ingenuity, allows us to develop a much more effective tactic of fighting against the enemy with overwhelming superiority in technology and to arrange an epic battle with significant losses and bonfires from armored vehicles.
