“Izh-Pulsar” and its capabilities
For the first time, the public got acquainted with the new Izhevsk motorcycle in August 2017. The premiere also came at the military-technical forum "Army". The motorcycle has the following main characteristics: the maximum travel speed is limited to 100 km / h, the cruising range is about 150 kilometers. The heart of the motorcycle is a Chinese-made brushless DC motor; the motor develops a maximum power of 15 kW (20 hp). When charging, the motor of an electric motor consumes only 10 kW / h of electricity. According to the calculations of the developers in comparison with motorcycles equipped with gasoline engines, Izh-Pulsar costs the owner about 12 times cheaper.
The Kalashnikov Concern emphasizes that the creation of the new Izh in the capital of Udmurtia was thought from the very moment the motorcycle production was closed in 2008. Directly on the Pulsar model in Izhevsk, 2016 began working in December. In this case, the bet was immediately made on a model with an electric motor, since it is for such a technique the future. The main global trend of all recent years is electric motors and electric cars, everyone is trying to switch to electricity. According to experts of the concern, sooner or later, Europe will come to the conclusion that all internal combustion engines will be banned at the legislative level, this may happen in the near future - over 10-15 years. That is why creating a new motorcycle "Izh" with a gasoline engine was meaningless from all points of view: both financial and technological.
The advantages of electric motorcycles are obvious and it is not only that they do not harm the ecology of our planet. First of all, it is cheapness of their operation. According to the developers, each kilometer of the motorcycle “Pulsar” turns out to be cheaper in 10-15 than on a motorcycle with an engine. Given the rise in fuel prices, this is all the more relevant. In this case, full charging of the electric motor will cost less than 50 rubles. In addition, such equipment is seriously cheaper to maintain, as the standard maintenance of any motorcycle is the replacement of filters and oil, and the Izh-Pulsar has neither one nor the other.
At the same time, in Izhevsk, they especially emphasize that they were developing a new motorcycle with an eye to the whole country and driving not on the best, “non-Moscow” roads, which prevail throughout Russia. It is difficult to argue with this, given that initially the motorcycle was developed specifically for the Ministry of Defense and law enforcement agencies. On the rollers of the Kalashnikov Concern one can see how the Pulsary confidently plow snow-covered dirt roads. In the process of developing the bike was improved, so the new versions are different from the one that was presented in the spring of 2017, they received a modified weight distribution, a stiffer suspension and many other new elements.
Motorcycle "Izh-Pulsar" is completed with the original power plant. The heart of the model is the Chinese brushless DC motor manufactured by Golden Motor, which develops the maximum power of 15 kW (20 hp). In the future, “Kalashnikov” expects to switch to a domestic-made electric motor, which is currently being worked on. In certification of the new Izhevsk motorcycle, three types of traction batteries are indicated at once: lithium-ion, lithium-polymer, and lithium-ferrophosphate. One main battery of batteries is installed above the engine, one or two batteries can be placed in specially designed cases for this. The capacity of the main battery can reach 38-100 Ah, auxiliary batteries can range from 20 to 30 Ah. The total battery capacity can reach 160 A • h, and the motorcycle range according to the OTTS (Vehicle Type Approval in Rosstandart) can range from 50 to 250 kilometers. The special purpose versions for the needs of the army, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Federal Security Service, the Interior Ministry, the National Guard, the Ministry of Justice, etc. are registered in the OTTS. and civilian version. A special version of the Izh-Pulsar motorcycle can be additionally equipped with safety arcs, flashing beacons, side and rear trunks, and a boot. It is for this reason, and also because of the different battery options, that the curb weight of an electric motor varies from 165 to 245 kg, and the allowed total mass of the Pulsar is from 300 to 320 kg.
Do the Izhevsk motorcycle stick to “Chinese ears”
In the popular Russian edition of AvtoReview, even in 2018, they expressed some skepticism about the Izhevsk news. In the publication, they doubted that we had before us the own development of the Kalashnikov Concern, a motorcycle entirely of Russian origin. Indeed, the production of motorcycles in Izhevsk was completely curtailed back in 2008, and all the equipment was sold out. At the same time, Izh-Pulsar looks very similar to the Irbis TTR250 off-road gasoline motorcycles on the Russian market. Under this designation in our country are sold motorcycles Bashan BS250, which are assembled in Chongqing, China.
The Kalashnikov Concern is following the reaction of the media to their new products, so they could not miss such comparisons. After the demonstration of the first version of the new motorcycle, there really appeared many comparisons and statements about the external similarity of the Pulsar to the Irbis TTR250 motorcycle. The concern believes that such comparisons are primarily related to the fact that in Izhevsk they used headlights from the same manufacturer as on the Irbis. In the rest, motorcycle developers note, it is not very clear why the Russian press noticed similarities with “Irbis”, and not, for example, with Yamaha motorcycles. The concern believes that it is at least strange to talk about some kind of external similarity of models.
In this case, the main element of the motorcycle "Pulsar" is really Chinese-made. The concern notes that the current version of the Chinese engine, he gave the developers a set of characteristics. Currently, work is underway to create its own electric motor for the "Pulsar". The first models have already reached the stage of testing, so that in the future, new Izh motorcycles will receive Russian engines, which will help to abandon the use of the Chinese engine.
Motorcycles "Izh-Pulsar" are already exploited by the police
Back in June of last year, the Kalashnikov Concern gave 30 the first electric motor Izh-Pulsar to a Moscow policeman. All motorcycles went to work in the Department of Transport and the development of road and transport infrastructure in Moscow. New models of motorcycles were widely used during the patrol of city streets and forest parks of the capital during the World Cup in Russia.
They master new Izhevsk motorcycles and representatives of the Russian military police. So in April 2019, the first 4 of the Izh-Pulsar electric motorcycle, issued by the Kalashnikov Concern, were transferred to the AIA (Military Automobile Inspection) of the city of Moscow. According to the press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, by the end of the 2019 of the year, the Moscow Aviation Inspectorate will purchase more 16 electric motorcycles made in Izhevsk. It is already known that after the generalization and comprehensive analysis of the experience of using the first VAI subdivision on electric motorcycles in Moscow, it is planned to form our own motorcycle divisions as early as in the 16 VAI.
The VAI notes that new motorcycles are excellent for creating mobile rapid response teams, driving to road accidents within the city, as well as monitoring compliance with traffic rules and ensuring road safety when moving military vehicles in urban environments. The military department especially emphasizes the relevance of motor transport in cities with high intensity and high traffic density, which, of course, includes Moscow and other Russian millionaire cities. Indeed, an electric motorcycle is a type of transport that feels more confident in the city traffic, a motorcycle is able to go where an ordinary car does not pass, and can successfully make its way through even many kilometers of traffic jams.
