"Typhoon" as a scout


At the end of May, an educational and methodological gathering was held at the Prudboy proving ground with a management team of technical support for armored vehicles and logistical support agencies. During this event, the first demonstration of a promising auxiliary vehicle based on the two-axle version of the Typhoon armored car took place.

The technical reconnaissance vehicle MTP-K is built on a standard chassis, but has special equipment. It carries night vision devices, a circular observation system, navigation aids and an unmanned aerial vehicle. Also available are navigation, radiation and chemical reconnaissance devices and other special equipment.

It is reported that the task of the MTR-K is the detection of damaged equipment on the battlefield and the delivery of technical specialists to it. The latter will be able to assess the state of the detected objects and carry out repairs, organize evacuation, or call technical assistance on other equipment. A developed set of surveillance tools should simplify the detection of damaged equipment in any conditions and at any time of the day.

Currently, MTP-K based on Typhoon is undergoing the necessary checks. State tests of this machine are scheduled for completion next year, after which it will enter into service with the ground forces. Thanks to this, the army will receive a new convenient means of support, and the Typhoon family of vehicles will be able to boast with another success.

In November last year, the K-53949 armored vehicle entered the disposal of the 55-th separate motorized rifle brigade (mountain), serving in the city of Kyzyl (Tuva). The task of the brigade was to conduct military tests and determine the real capabilities of the equipment in the special conditions of the mountainous terrain.

According to well-known data, 55-th ombrre (r) transferred "Typhoon", past some refinement. At the same time, the essence of the modifications and the changes made to the design were not specified. According to the plans, troop tests of such equipment should be completed before the end of 2019. According to their results, a decision should be made to accept the “Typhoon 4х4” into service of the mining units of the Russian army.

June 6 brigade command announced the holding of exercises with the implementation of combat training tasks in the foothills of the Western Sayan. More than 500 military personnel and fifty units of equipment, including the Typhoon K-53949, took part in the maneuvers. An experienced armored vehicle was used to transport the fire group to the battlefield. The combat training task 55 of the ombsbr (r) was successfully solved, and the prospective armored car made its contribution.

21 June edition of "Izvestia", citing its sources in the military department wrote about the future plans of the army. It is alleged that the Ministry of Defense decided to arm the mining intelligence units with K-53949 armored vehicles. Now such equipment is undergoing military tests, and after they are completed, its widespread introduction should begin.

Izvestiya indicated future Typhoon operators. The Russian army has one Guards Airborne Assault Mountain Division, two separate motorized rifle mountain brigades, as well as two separate regiments and two separate mountain battalions. In the composition of these formations are present companies intelligence climbers. According to the data obtained, it is they who in the near future will have to master armored cars.

New "Typhoons" will be a replacement for old vehicles. Armored cars have sufficient mobility to work at high altitudes and mountain roads, and in addition provide good protection for the crew and landing force. The ability to use various combat modules gives a certain advantage in case of a collision with an enemy.

When the K-53949 machines entered service with the mining divisions, it has not yet been specified. Military tests on the basis of 55-th ombsbr (r) will be completed this year, and it can be assumed that deliveries of serial equipment will begin next. The number of armored vehicles required is also unknown, but you can expect an order of several dozen cars.

Typhoon abroad


25 June, on the first day of the Army-2019 forum, there were interesting reports about the export prospects of the Russian armored vehicle K-53949. The TASS news agency received this information from an unnamed source in the military and diplomatic circles of Uzbekistan.

It is reported that the armed forces of Uzbekistan conducted a comparative test of the Russian Typhoon armored car and the American M-ATV. An armored car from Russia demonstrated superiority over a competitor in a number of parameters. Tests were held several armored cars in the basic version, not equipped with any combat module. The inspection of equipment was carried out by special purpose units.

The TASS source indicates that the K-53949 differs from the M-ATV in greater fuel efficiency and better maintainability, as well as a higher combat readiness. Also "Typhoon" showed greater reliability and lower operating costs when working in the mountains. To the American armored car M-ATV claims in terms of mobility and opportunities for the carriage of goods.

From such news it follows that the Russian Typhoon could interest the Uzbek military, and this could lead to the appearance of an export contract. However, an unnamed TASS source did not disclose such details. It can be assumed that news of this nature will appear later and will be announced at the official level.

The K-53949 armored car from the Typhoon family appeared in 2015 and since then has managed to show quite remarkable results. This machine confirmed the possibility of using as a platform for various weapons and special equipment, and on the basis of it and using the solutions involved, new models of equipment were created. Everything suggests that the two-axle armored car K-53949 is a very successful multi-purpose vehicle capable of solving different tasks in different conditions and even in different countries. The news of recent months shows that the Russian armed forces understand all the advantages of both K-53949 and other Typhoons, and therefore they are widely adopting similar equipment in various fields.

The consequences of this are obvious. Units receive secure transport, and the army as a whole has the opportunity to order samples for various purposes on a unified platform. On the basis of the armored car for the transportation of personnel, an intelligence vehicle, self-propelled anti-tank systems, etc. have already been created. At the same time, the resulting equipment provides protection against current threats, has the required economic indicators, and is also suitable for transportation of military transport aviation.

Apparently, the news of recent months will not be the last of its kind. Having received a very successful multipurpose platform in the form of K-53949, the armed forces are trying to take full advantage of all its advantages, and the manufacturer seeks to offer its equipment not only to domestic, but also to foreign customers.

She is colloquially "Typhoonenrk". It was created from the reserve under the Typhoon program, but was never included in the program itself. If you find a video from these exercises (RT published on its YouTube channel), then you will see another drawback: there, in addition to transportation, there is also an attempt to use a Typhoon 4x4 (without a combat module) with a protruding from the front hatch (obviously, according to photographs from the passenger compartment, not for that made) by a machine gunner as a means of fire support for mts.
          A similar "brilliant solution" was demonstrated today at the Army-2019 open show: Typhoon 6x6 (not in the APC version and without RCUM) with a paratrooper and a machine gunner with an RPK on the roof imitated a battle.
          Although the machines themselves are very good (at least judging by open data).
