Vietnam introduced inflatable weapon systems mockups

Products made in the framework of the “Made in Vietnam” program surprised international military experts, since among them was the C-300 anti-aircraft missile system. However, it turned out that it is in fact an inflatable mock-up, released by 76 One Member (“76 Company”), which is overseen by the General Directorate of Defense Industry. Reports about it DatViet.

What did Vietnam learn?

According to the publication, the feature "weapons, Disguised as C-300PMU1, is its external identity to a real combat system at the disposal of Vietnamese air defense.

According to DatViet, the use of inflatable mock-ups to disguise or misinform the enemy about the location of real weapons is carried out in many countries of the world. The most famous in this regard was the Russian army, which imitates various systems, such as S-300 missiles, Tanks T-72, Su-27 fighters and even MiG-21. This method of disorientation of the enemy is relevant in that the falsity of this weapon cannot be confirmed by modern electronic intelligence systems.

After the military accepted the Su-30 layout, produced by 76 Company, the manufacturer was asked to continue the development of other inflatable models, such as: Su-22 aircraft, C125-2ТM missile system, radar, Su-30МК2 fighter.

The fact that our army has successfully created sophisticated inflatable devices indicates the presence of new technologies in the country. This indicates the development of the domestic defense industry as a whole.

- notes DatViet.

How it works

As stated, inflatable products are made of non-absorbent material and take up little space when folded. Imitation tanks and fighters reach the size of real analogs in 5 minutes, and it is difficult to distinguish them from real weapon versions at a distance of 100 meters.

To make these inflatable systems more difficult to detect using reconnaissance equipment, the Russian army equips them with heat generators and a device that simulates a radar signal. However, it is unclear whether Vietnamese products have this equipment.

According to DatViet, during the war with the United States, Vietnam effectively used the inflated models of the C-75 missiles to deceive the intelligence of the US Air Force. Today, the means of reconnaissance and attack do not allow to survive the first wave of attack. Inflatable layouts in these conditions can improve survival and avoid sudden death. In addition, the enemy will be forced to squander the arsenal of their ammunition, fighting against fictitious targets.

According to DatViet, during the war with the United States, Vietnam effectively used inflated S-75 rocket models to trick U.S. air force reconnaissance. (from text)
Inflatable models were then luxury. Vietnamese from rice straw and from other improvised means, such SAMs sculpted - a sight for sore eyes!

Simple swindle of the enemy. This was done during the Patriotic War, but wood and plywood were used, which was inconvenient. And inflatable equipment is much more advantageous in terms of deployment and deployment.

The Americans also used with the British.

"The words" inflatable army "need not be bracketed - the combat unit known as the" 23rd Special Forces "was literally and figuratively inflatable. In the English-speaking world, the popular name of this phenomenon - Ghost Army, which is translated means “ghost army” or “army of ghosts.” During the year of its existence, the detachment made about 20 imitations, fighting on the spot the fighting spirit of the Germans. And no wonder - in places where just yesterday butterflies fluttered, today there were airfields with hundreds of aircraft, batteries and tank units For greater reliability, the roar of motors was heard from the powerful speakers, and lively negotiations were conducted on the air.

The idea of creating fake armies is not new, for example, the British used similar tactics in the battle of El Alamein. But America has put the production of "ghosts" on an industrial track. In total, 1100 people were involved, mainly in art, advertising and design specialties, who drew up sketches and brought to life models of tanks, aircraft, barracks and other paraphernalia of army life. Of course, upon closer examination, the props were obvious, but from the air, from where the German scouts observed the "airfields" and "tank" battalions, a completely reliable picture emerged. Even such trifles as clothes hung on the clothesline for drying were thought over. If we consider that several real ones were driving between the inflatable units, then it was simply impossible not to believe in the authenticity of what was happening. In most cases, the consequences were predictable - instead of fighting a real enemy, the Germans pulled together all their forces to destroy the illusory threat, rebuilding the troops in the right place for the allies. Then followed a quick blow to the weakened positions of the Nazis, but from the real troops, not the "phantom army."

Then all materials regarding the 23rd detachment were classified ...

In the UK "Rubber Technique" has been in service OFFICIALLY since the mid-90s.
During the Iraq war, Hussein’s army quite successfully used dummies.
PS I recommend watching the old Soviet comedy film "Restless Economy" - touches on this topic.

This method of enemy disorientation is relevant in that this “fake” weapon cannot be detected by modern electronic intelligence systems.
I did not understand what is the relevance according to the author, they did not find inflatable mock-ups by electronic reconnaissance systems, so what? That is the meaning of these mock-ups that they should be detected otherwise the desa did not pass. For this, corner reflectors, etc., etc. are placed inside the models.

War is a way of deception.

War is a way of deception. Therefore, even if you are capable, show the enemy your inability. When you must bring your forces into battle, pretend to be inactive. When the target is close, show that it is far away; when she is really far away, give the impression that she is close.

Vietnamese are level 80 camouflages. Since the 60s. Maybe, if there was an order, they also made Yars, because what the missilemen carry with them now is not defined by polite words:
