Military experts from Turkey went to Russia to study C-400
The Minister of National Defense of the Turkish Republic, Hulusi Acar, said that the teams of military specialists went to the Russian Federation to attend a training course on the operation of the Triumph C-400 air defense system.
- local Milliyet newspaper quoted Akara as saying.
Ankara may be subject to sanctions
Meanwhile, Ankara does not stop the dialogue with Washington. Turkey has repeatedly noted that it is interested in the Patriot air defense systems, but it is not satisfied with the price and the conditions under which the air defense systems will be set.
At the moment, the last offer of Washington on the Patriot air defense system arrived in late March. Judging by the fact that Ankara has not changed its position, the proposal of the Americans did not suit her.
American threats
USA threatened Turkey, that if the country in two weeks does not refuse to purchase C-400, Washington will terminate the contract for the supply of fifth-generation F-35 aircraft to Turkey, and also prohibit the production and export of parts for these multi-functional and inconspicuous fighters.
On May 16, the US Congress submitted a resolution to a number of relevant committees for consideration by a joint Democrats and Republicans. It urges to apply to Turkey the norms of the law “On Countering America’s Opponents through Sanctions” in case the latter acquires C-400. Such a move will also lead to the exclusion of a country from the JFS program, under which F-35 is manufactured.
Despite the fact that resolutions of the House of Representatives and the Senate are advisory in nature, there is a high probability that the White House will support this decision.
Kremlin against pressure on Turkey
Moscow, in turn, calls on Washington to stop putting pressure on Ankara. The Kremlin considers the demands voiced by the United States with respect to Turkey to be impermissible, and considers the transaction itself to be completed. This statement was made by Dmitry Peskov in response to a request from journalists to comment on the situation.
- A spokesman said the president of Russia.
According to a figure announced by Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov in December 2017, the total value of the contract with Ankara is 2,5 billion dollars. It is assumed that subsequently Russia and Turkey will establish a joint production of elements of the complex on Turkish territory. This was repeatedly stated by Turkish President Recep Erdogan.
