Re-equipment of the 20 Army of the Western Military District at the Iskander-M OTRK will be completed by the end of the year
The 448 th missile brigade of the 20 th Combined Arms Army of the Western Military District will be upgraded to Iskander-M operational tactical missile systems by the end of this year. Major General Andrei Ivanayev, the army commander, said this in an interview with the Krasnaya Zvezda Defense Ministry’s newspaper.
According to him, by the end of the year, the missile brigade, which is part of the 20 Army and which has the Tochka-U system, will be reequipped at the Iskander-M OTRK. The general explained that today the 448 Brigade, stationed in Kursk, is the only brigade in the ZVO, which is still armed with the Tochka-U complexes. However, in 2017 and 2018, she was recognized as the best army unit based on comprehensive inspections.
According to experts, after the re-equipment of the rocket formation of the 20 Army ZVO, the process of transfer of the Rocket brigades of the Ground Forces from the Tochka-U complex to the Iskander-M OTRK will be completed.
Earlier it was reported that the next, the eleventh brigade set of the Iskander-M PTRC, manufactured by Kolomna Engineering Design Bureau (KBM) together with cooperation enterprises, is technically more than half ready. The brigade set of 51 units of equipment include: self-propelled launchers, transport-charging machines, rockets, a comprehensive system of automated control, means of monitoring the technical condition, the point of data preparation.
