Russian sappers in the jungle of Laos - mission is feasible
4
The work of the sapper is one of the most dangerous professions in the world. People who choose this profession initially understand that their whole life will be filled with risk, increased nervous tension and high concentration of attention.
It was the sappers who became the heroes of the next release of the program "Military Acceptance" of TC "Zvezda". In October 2018, a group of Russian engineers of the international mine action center traveled to Laos to perform an extremely important task: to assist Lao counterparts in demining unexploded American ammunition that was dropped into the region in the 60-70 of the 20 century - the time of the Vietnam War. Russia became the first country to agree to help Laos demining.
For six months, servicemen from Russia had to work in conditions where literally every square meter of the jungle was packed with unexploded American cluster bombs. During the period of business trip, a detachment of 36 people cleared an area of about 104 ha, hundreds of ammunition were found. The situation was complicated not only by difficulties in the detection and disposal of ammunition, but also by the constant presence of poisonous snakes and dangerous insects, as well as heat and high humidity.
