China is developing a radar to deal with unobtrusive fighters
The THz model of the radar radar was successfully developed by a team of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) led by scientist Li Yuanji, and a second-generation prototype is already under development, the Central Television of China (CCTV) reported on Sunday with reference to the corporation.
According to the statement, the development of terahertz radar is a global task, in the solution of which different countries are interested.
The CCTV report states that THz radiation, also known as T-rays and whose frequency spectrum is located between infrared and microwave, can turn the latest stealth technology into obsolete.
- said in an interview with Wei Donghu, a military analyst from Beijing.
He also noted that a radar with T-radiation can clearly trace the contour of the object, allowing it to determine its type.
Experts say that THz radiation decays very quickly in the air, which means that the effective range of the radar is probably small and insufficient for the timely detection of an advanced stealth fighter, which is supposed to operate from long distances.
However, despite the fact that the stealth control technology needs to be improved, THz radiation can be effectively used for reconnaissance from the air.
Earlier, in December 2018, it was already reported that the Chinese Aerospace Scientific and Industrial Corporation (CASIC) had successfully developed China's first THz radar with synthetic aperture.
The CASIC radar uses terahertz radiation to see through complex environments, such as smoke, smog and dim light, and can effectively detect ground targets (such as infantry in camouflage camouflage). According to the developers, the system has a greater penetration depth than infrared vision devices.
According to Wei, after installing a radar on an aircraft or drone, the system will allow operators to clearly see the situation on the battlefield and strike at targets that would otherwise be difficult to detect.
