At the military base of the Air Force of South Korea, located in 85 km from Seoul, there was an occasional launch of the air-defense missile ChRongun (Cheongung). According to the agency Yonhap, launched a rocket in the air exploded according to the protocol of self-destruction.
According to the Korean media, the incident occurred during a routine inspection of equipment. The anti-aircraft missile launched on Monday at 10: 38 local time (04: 38 Moscow time) from the territory of the Chuncheon military base in Gangwon province. The medium-range air defense missile system Chongong (Cheongung) is a Korean development created with the help of specialists from the Russian Almaz-Antey concern. The complex is designed to cover various objects from air attack and is capable of hitting targets at a distance of 35-40 km and an altitude of 15-20 km. Rocket weight - 400 kg. One battery of the Chhongun air defense missile system consists of a radar, command and control vehicle and 6-8 launchers, each with eight interceptor missiles. All missiles have a self-destruct system.
