US military is testing the latest armored cars JLTV

16
In February this year, a practical training seminar on driving and maintaining the latest multi-purpose armored SUVs JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicles) was held at the Fort Stewart military base in the state of Georgia, in which the first military personnel took part tank brigades of the 1st armored division of the US armed forces. These cars should be put into service in the near future by the brigade.

JLTV vehicles are manufactured by the American company Oshkosh Defense. By 2040, the US Army plans to purchase more than 49 thousand of these vehicles, and the US Marine Corps - about 4,5 thousand by 2022, which is half the general requirements of the Marine Corps. The total cost of the program is over $ 30 billion.

The car should be produced in five different versions depending on the purpose: cargo double M1279 Utility (JLTV-UTL), general purpose four-seat М1280 General Purpose (JLTV-GP), as a carrier of M1281 Close Combat Weapons Carrier (JLTV-CCWC), carrier 30-mm gun M1278 Heavy Guns Carrier - General Purpose (JLTV-GP) and tractor (JLTV-T). Other options are also being developed, in particular, the production of a reconnaissance version of the JLTV-RV is planned.

JLTV SUVs are equipped with the 6,6-liter diesel engine Gale Banks Engineering 866T V8, which is based on the General Motors Duramax V8 engine. Engine power was not disclosed, however, according to some estimates, it can reach 300 hp Duramax V8 engine power in commercial use reaches 397 HP Also, the car is equipped with an Allison automatic transmission and Oshkosh TAK-4i independent suspension.

Depending on the variant, the car will have a different weight, for example, the four-seater JLTV variant has a total combat weight of 6400 kg and a payload of up to 1600 kg. In the double version, the payload is 2300 kg.

JLTV security has not been disclosed, the base armor in the field can be enhanced with a set of additional protection. The maximum vehicle speed on the highway is 77 km / h. In the company declare that passability of JLTV is higher, than at armored versions HMMWV (Hummer).

Oshkosh has a very successful experience in creating such machines. They are reliable, possess high performance characteristics and are loved by the troops.

I wonder why their specialists did not want to increase the passenger compartment (such as the Tiger). The same principle was observed in helicopters from UH-1 to UH-60. Although maybe I'm wrong of course to draw such analogies, but there is something in it)

why their specialists did not want to increase the passenger compartment (like the Tiger)
while maintaining the level of protection, the weight of the machine will increase excessively, and for an oshkosh, the load is 1,5-2 tons per wheel.

Figase "off-road vehicle" has already caught up with the BRDM-2 in weight, and in terms of size it looks like it is also close. True, you can't teach him to swim.

But the amers somehow sucks with the safety of work on equipment. They climb under the car on a jack, the wheel is leaned on "from..s", in general, "do not care on the march"

It also caught my eye. We would have received everything from the instructor to the deputy technologist for such an indicative lesson with TB violation.

Well, they created another garbage dump, to see our Tiger in no way gives them rest. They want to create something that is at least closely similar in characteristics.

Judging by the photo, the suspension is adjustable. The open radiator bothers, but apparently there is a hinged set of armor. And how wonderful a 6,6 liter v8 engine standings.
