The latest self-propelled gun of the Russian Airborne Forces "Lotus" can shoot NATO mines

26
Mikhail Levshunov, deputy general director of TsNIITochmash, spoke about the features of the newest self-propelled gun of the Russian military-industrial complex Lotos. This armored vehicle was originally designed for combat missions of the Airborne Forces, respectively, its constructive design allows the crew to be inside the vehicle during the assault from the aircraft. In addition, “Lotos” is the first model designed according to the “golden section” principle. Among other things, this self-propelled artillery gun (hereinafter CAO) has the opportunity to use mines from the arsenal of the armies of the NATO countries when shooting.

Initially, the design engineers of the Central Research Institute of Precision Engineering (TsNIITochmash, part of Rostec) worked on the project of the new self-propelled gun Zauralets-D. Later it became known that in the framework of the same project "Zauralets-D" was replaced by an improved "Lotus".

The main reason for this reshuffle on the part of the Russian Defense Ministry was the firepower of the Lotus: it has the latest generation of artillery, which hits targets at a greater distance than its predecessor Zauraltsa-D. In addition, in the arsenal of "Lotus" the latest projectiles and mines for targeting fire of high accuracy. In addition, the CAO can shoot with ammunition from the armies of the North Atlantic Alliance, which is also essential in a real war with the aforementioned military bloc.

It is assumed that the self-propelled gun "Lotos" will be one of the most promising developments for the Russian paratroopers. This armored vehicle takes the forces of the RF Airborne Forces to a new level in maneuverability and firepower. On the basis of TsNIITochmash the first test model of the CAO has already been assembled. "Lotus" can rightly be considered an extraordinary design solution, the creation of which used the most advanced ideas of domestic and world artillery and tank construction. "Lotus" is almost perfect in terms of ergonomics, maneuverability, vitality and ammunition.

In addition to the excellent fighting qualities of the newest self-propelled airborne troops, it is also unique from the standpoint of military design, which is now being actively developed at Rostec enterprises. First time in stories OPK in the creation of "Lotus" used the principle of "golden section". Constructed according to this principle, the technique is obtained with excellent proportions, combining an impressive front and noble silhouette in profile. Perhaps, after the tests, the general appearance of the Lotus will undergo some changes. There are also plans to improve the wheelbase of the machine.

The plans of the Ministry of Defense of Russia to begin the test tests of the CJSC "Lotos" this year. If they give a positive result, after appropriate technical development of the armored vehicle it is planned to switch to its state tests.

Not an artilleryman, but the wall of the gun’s barrel is thin, like a mortar. What is this model or technology?
2S42 "Lotus" - the Russian airborne floating self-propelled artillery gun of 120 mm caliber. The project was first presented at the Army 2017 forum. Wiki

And the caliber ...... like another.

That's for me, so weapons for the airborne are the most useless.
Seriously, where is this bullshit seriously used recently?
They sculpt, improve ... then to write off.

Actually, this is his strong point, with the ability to compete with the export version of its Western counterparts in the global arms market.

On the contrary, ammunition is its weak side. In competition. Due to the presence in the ammunition shells, which, as far as I know, are more expensive than the 152 mm RP. Due to the need to have ready-made protrusions for rifling.

Well, mines .... NATO’s 120-mm mortars can also fire our 120-mm mortars 8))))

      Western counterparts

There are practically no analogues. Is that the French muzzle-loading rifled mortar, with the seizure of which the valiant GRU scouts began the history of the line of Soviet-Russian "Nona" / "Vienna" / "Hosts" / "Phlox" / "Lotos"

The positive characteristic of the weapon is that wartime will be very useful for firing from NATO ammunition. If it is possible, it can be exported to any country.

In a salt shaker! What "spices" do you still need, if all this is a further improvement of the "project" 2C9 "Nona-S"?

But there is no salt. This is a further evolution of NONA. Just now, under the Airborne Forces a separate line of equipment is being created on one BMP3 chassis. This bmd4m and sau, and Fri. but in fact a light tank, and air defense. That is, the entire line will be as unified as possible. And this is a bad sign for Kurgan, by the way. If so many cars are created on the BMP3 chassis, then Kurganets is unlikely to be put into service in the foreseeable future.

The author laughs - "SU was taught to use NATO ammunition when firing" - "Nona" has been shooting 30mm mines for 120 years, even though ours, though not ours; and the "golden ratio" is finally-die not to get up laughing
