The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) denied the Ukrainian authorities to satisfy the request for medical assistance to Ukrainian sailors in the case of the detention of Ukrainian naval forces by Russian border guards in the Kerch Strait 25 in November 2018, reports press office Ministry of Justice of Russia
The request of the Ukrainian side was based on information from lawyers and relatives of sailors detained in Moscow. Lawyers and relatives said that three prisoners required specialized medical care. Also in Kiev, they tried to challenge the quality of care provided by Russian doctors.
The arguments of the Ukrainian authorities and the submitted materials are not convincing, do not contain new arguments and are identical to the previously submitted appeal, to which the Russian authorities have already provided an exhaustive answer.
- stated in the ECHR.
The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine sent an additional application to the European Court of Human Rights in February of this year. In a statement, the Ukrainian authorities demanded that the Ukrainian sailors detained during the provocation in the Kerch Strait should receive medical assistance and transfer them to medical institutions of Ukraine, challenging the quality of Russian medical assistance.
This is the second lawsuit against Russia. In January of this year, Ukraine sent a claim to the ECHR demanding that the arrest of its seamen be declared unlawful.
