The head of the Russian military department, Sergei Shoigu, at the selector meeting at the Defense Ministry held today, called on Russia's actions to be carried out at the initial stage in response to the withdrawal of the United States from the INF Treaty, the press service of the military department reports.
According to Shoigu, at the initial stage it is necessary to develop a ground version of the Caliber marine complex with a long-range missile. Development must be done in 2019-2020. At the same time, a ground-based complex with a long-range hypersonic rocket should be created. The Minister stressed that the use of already existing sea-based and air-launched missiles in the development of ground-based complexes will significantly reduce the production time of the new weapons while maintaining the same amount of funding. The second task voiced by Shoigu is to increase the firing range of the developed ground-based missile systems.
The Minister of Defense instructed his deputy, Alexei Krivoruchko, "to open appropriate R & D within a short time frame within the framework of the funds already allocated for 2019 and 2020-2021, according to the state defense order by redistributing revenues for the above-mentioned works."
Earlier, the head of the military department said that the United States is actively working to create land-based missiles with a range of more than 500 kilometers.
The President of Russia has set the task of the Ministry of Defense to take retaliatory mirror measures
- said Shoigu.
