Indian Air Force thinking about upgrading MiG-29 to Russian BARK-88
In the Indian press, in connection with these plans of the country's Air Force command, the possibility of increasing the potential of the MiG-29 based on the use of a digital block of automatic regulation and control BARK-88 is mentioned. By the way, it was in India (at the Aero India-2017 exhibition) that this unit was first introduced by the Russian United Engine Corporation.
This system can significantly increase the capabilities of the fighter engine. In particular, we are talking about increasing the hot draft resource aviation power plant. Also, the digital BARK is able to increase the supply of gas-dynamic stability of the engine in variable modes, to increase the accuracy of maintaining the operating parameters of the fighter’s power plant. But that is not all. In India, attention was drawn to the fact that the BARK-88 allows to reduce both the volumes and the mass of auxiliary equipment - engine electronics (RD-33) and various electrical cables.
For your information: BARK-88 unit was developed by Klimov specialists. In fact, it replaces the analog blocks, which to date can be considered largely obsolete.
All the required work for the production of the BARK for the engines of MiG-29 fighters was completed in the 2015 year. After that, the units were installed on airplanes that are operated by the Strizhi aerobatic team.
India is assessing the possibility of purchasing BARK-88 from Russia for the modernization of its Air Force 64 aircraft. Previously reported upgrading to the version of the MiG-29UPG 65-ti combat vehicles.
