The reaction in Japan to the Moscow visit Abe: Putin hung a carrot in front of him
Information Service Kyodo came out with a material in which several expert judgments are presented. One of them is from Professor Itzur Nakamura, who has been studying Russia for many years at the University of Tsukuba. Nakamura says that Vladimir Putin is not going to transfer “the disputed territories” (as the professor called the South Kuriles, - note “IN”).
From the statement of the Japanese professor:
In this case, Nakamura notes that the famous statements and oaths of Shinzo Abe now put him in a quandary.
Prof. Nakamura:
In Japanese expert circles, the view was also expressed that Abe had driven himself into a corner with an actual readiness to “get two of the four islands”. As you know, most Japanese are against this.
And this statement by Professor Akihiro Ivashita from Kyushu University (also a specialist in relations with Russia):
Ordinary Japanese commentary on publications in the media and in social networks noted that "Abe took a lot of himself," adding that he "is unlikely to be able to bear it on his shoulders," hinting at the impossibility of these promises to the islands "in exchange for a peace treaty ".
