The Russian Navy will receive a modernized anti-submarine aircraft, created on the basis of the IL-38H "Novella" using the latest technologies, according to News.

Defense Ministry decided to upgrade the IL-38H


The decision to upgrade was made based on the results of applying IL-38Н in Syria. Full modernization of the fleet of these cars is planned to be completed in 2025 year

Serial production of IL-38 was conducted 5 years, starting with the 1967 year. During this period, built 65 units. Currently, 50 aircraft are in working condition. Since 2012, 8 machines have been upgraded according to the Novella project.

It is planned to upgrade 25 aircraft in total. The new project has already received the nickname "Supernova".

The upgraded aircraft can be distinguished from its predecessor by the configuration of a special container with equipment that will be installed above the fuselage. Despite the large add-on, all the main characteristics will remain, including speed (up to 650 km / h) and range (up to 9,5 thousand km).

It is reported that the upgraded version will be equipped with new search anti-submarine sighting systems, a new radar, as well as a modern optical-electronic system with laser, television and thermal imaging channels.

In addition, the complex will include a wide range of sensor equipment, including means of detecting submarines by their physical fields (noise, magnetic, infrared). This will provide support for surface ships up to 320 km, air targets - up to 90 km.

Today, to perform combat missions, the aircraft is armed with torpedoes, but it is possible that after the finalization of the "Elah" they will receive anti-ship missiles X-35.

The publication notes that, thanks to modern technical solutions, the efficiency of the machine during patrols will increase several times: it will be able to successfully accomplish the tasks of electronic surveillance of underwater, surface and air objects, target designation, mine barriers, participate in search and rescue operations and conduct environmental monitoring water surface.
