The British government has spoken about the incident with the drones in London
December 19 major London Gatwick Airport (Gatwick) stopped its work for almost two days. The reason was the appearance in the area of the runway drones, the exact number of which has not been clarified. For two days the police was at the airport, but could not identify the perpetrators of the incident.
The armed forces of the United Kingdom showed an unintelligible reaction to the emergency: the military arrived in Gatwick by the end of the second day, when the airport almost returned to normal operation. British Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson tried to justify his subordinates by saying that they "probably had some difficulties." These words of his provoked a wave of indignation among the British, who did not like that their army could not protect them even from several drones.
The airport administration also showed itself not from the profitable side. All two days, passengers whose flights were delayed or canceled, did not understand how they should act: should we expect a later departure and better go home or to a hotel. As a result, in Gatvik 19-20 December there were a large number of people, because of which the food quickly ended at the airport. People had to sleep on the floor. In addition, none of the airport staff received clear instructions on what to inform passengers about the situation, so people tried to find out news from the Internet.
Almost a week later, the Minister of Security talks about some kind of "anti-drone countermeasure systems." First, unmanned aerial vehicles are not a supernova. weaponsappeared yesterday. Everyone already understood that UAVs can pose a great danger, and the fact that Britain was not ready for their appearance does not characterize its security system for the better.
Secondly, Ben Wallace said nothing concrete. Have these systems been purchased and when will they be installed? What are they and how will they “fight” with UAVs? Will they be able to destroy them or will they only discover them?
So far, everything looks as if the government did not take what happened seriously. The incident was simply hushed up: no one apologized to the injured passengers for the inconvenience, and the defense minister does not seem to be upset by the inefficiency of the armed forces.
It seems that the only one who was upset by this failure was London Police Chief Cressida Dick. She acknowledged that, despite the unprecedented incident, the police and military could not cope with the threat. “We need to work closely with private companies, with the military. In the future, we must prevent the illegal use of drones near airports for any purpose. ”
