In the USA, they tested the VSS Unity spacecraft and wanted to lower the "border of space"

The American company Virgin Galactic has successfully tested the VSS Unity, which belongs to the so-called spaceplanes. During the tests - after undocking the spaceplane from the carrier - its own engines were involved, which allowed the VSS Unity to reach speeds of about 2,9 M (2,9 times the speed of sound) and rise to an altitude of 82,7 km. This is the first time that the altitude mark in 80 km has been overcome by the spaceplane.
During the tests on board the spaceplane was NASA research equipment.
It is noteworthy that, according to the International aviation federation standards, an altitude of 82-83 km is not appropriate to outer space. In this regard, the very concept of "spaceplane" in this case does not correspond to reality. And instead of raising the spacecraft to real space heights (from 100 km), the United States decided to push the initiative to reduce the "height of the beginning of outer space" from 100 to 80 km. It is stated that it is necessary to reduce the space boundary in order to study the nature of the work of spacecraft in the upper layers of the Earth's atmosphere.
During the flight, VSS Unity, using equipment loaded on its board, conducted research on the separation of liquid and gas under conditions of weak gravity, as well as other experiments, including studying the operation of a structure that protects goods from vibration when spacecraft enter space.
It should be recalled that VSS Unity is already the second such brainchild of the aforementioned American company. The previous version of the spaceplane (VSS Enterprise) crashed in 2014 during a failed test.
