Perspective models of weapons of the XXI century. Ammunition and Ergonomics (Part 4)
Ammunition for a grenade launcher: a cartridge and a grenade that is in it.
But the ammunition itself for such rifles will have to be developed anew, although all the components of such development are already there and they just need to be properly combined in one “cartridge.” Why is the word patron given in ""? Yes, because it should not be quite a cartridge in the usual sense of the word.
Let's start with the bullet. Since the rifle barrels are smooth (and chrome-plated), the bullet has an unusual design, and looks like a German masonry hand grenade. It has a cylindrical head part of the corresponding outlines, then a rather long “tail-rod” at the end of which an X-shaped stabilizer is fixed. Three “rings” are put on the “tail”. The first is an inductor coil that picks up microwave radiation from the control unit and converts it into an electric current that feeds the chip of the second “ring”, which performs the function of a “receiver”. The third "ring" is a primer-igniter, which is triggered by a command from the chip. The propellant composition — either gunpowder or liquid fuel in four ampoules — is placed in a combustible cylindrical cartridge that plays the role of a metal sleeve. In the trunks, the bottom parts of the preceding bullets rest against the head parts of the subsequent ones, and those, respectively, with their bottoms against the closures. Thus, the recoil is transmitted to the entire structure and the cartridges do not wrinkle when fired! And since they enter the trunks very tightly, the gas breakthrough from the firing cartridge to the rest is excluded.
The cartridge is inserted into the barrel, and the grenade has ready-made protrusions for grooves on the walls of the cartridge. Therefore, leaving it when fired, it begins to rotate.
The bullet material is steel. That is, they are technologically simple - no non-ferrous metal shells, and no lead. Naturally, both the speed and the lethal force of such a bullet will be much higher than that of bullets of a traditional design. As for their electronic filling, factories will be engaged in its production -Robots, so that human hands will not even touch these cartridges. Well, the finished ones will immediately be inserted into cartridges with a pneumatic drive, and again, the soldier does not even have to pick them up. Suitability testing is carried out using a computer, that is, in the most modern way, as it should be. Actually, all this already exists, and in the near future it will become the universal norm. Well, except that in the Amazonian selva and on the Maclay Coast in New Guinea, everything will remain the same as it is now, and as it was even earlier.
English SA-80 with a grenade launcher.
In this photo do you see the English rifle SA-80? paired with a grenade launcher. And so she did not shine with the design, and with it it became even worse. Firstly, the grenade launcher leans to her sideways, which is not very convenient. Secondly, a grenade with a sleeve. Well, another pistol grip, trigger, fuse. That is, the mass of all kinds of parts. And why all this when it can be made much easier?
However, warheads for rifle barrels EVN-18 is not all. Now it is fashionable (and also practical!) To equip automatic rifles with grenade launchers. So she also has a removable grenade launcher under the barrel. He turned off two "lamb", and he is removed. He put it back, screwed them into place - now he is ready for battle. In fact, there are now a great many of the most diverse grenade launchers that stand on our Kalashnikov, both the American M16, and the English SA-80, however, this grenade launcher is definitely the simplest among them. In fact, this is just a barrel of 45-mm caliber and that’s all, no special mechanization is provided for in it. The thing is that he also has an electronic drive, and if so, what and why do he need “mechanisms”? True, the ammunition for such a grenade launcher from the usual somewhat different. First of all, the grenades to it (except for one, which will be the story ahead) are in cylindrical cartridges that play the role of capping 45-mm caliber. In the walls of the cartridge there are rifling, and on the case of 40-mm grenades, respectively, there are ready protrusions. The grenade has a so-called "flying sleeve", that is, the metal charge is undermined directly in the grenade body, after which the pressure of the gases throws the grenade out of the barrel. Naturally, the cartridge from falling out is held by a latch in the breech. It does not allow the cartridge to fly out of the barrel along with the grenade when it moves along the grooves. But then the cartridge flies out of the barrel itself, but only after it leaves the grenade. The solution is simple and elegant! There is a small hole in the back bottom of the cartridge. Powder gases pass into it at the moment of the shot, but do not immediately fill the space behind it, because it is very small. But then still fill and press the latch holding the cartridge. Well, by that time the grenade had already flown out of the barrel, and after it the powder gases, which always leads to a decrease in pressure. But the pressure on the bottom of the cartridge is still high and now it throws it out of the barrel!
40 mm caliber grenades for a rifle grenade launcher for this rifle can be of various types: high-explosive fragmentation, cumulative fragmentation, incendiary smoke with a white phosphorus “filling”, and the size of the grenades allows you to have a decent charge of gas . Fuse - programmable via electronic control unit. A very expensive, but effective, controlled 45-mm ammunition with a TV camera mounted on it, and therefore not having a threaded cartridge, can be used. After all, it is completely useless to rotate in flight, but it is controlled by means of drop-down steering surfaces.
The cartridge for garnet is sealed, which, of course, convenient. The cover of the cartridge stands for the dimensions of the barrel, so it is convenient not only to insert, but also to remove.
Imagine, for example, that a unit of fighters with such rifles keeps the defense on the reverse slopes of the hills and is subjected to severe machine-gun fire from several tankswhich forward, however, do not go. But their commanders and those charging are firing so hard from the machine guns of the tower that they can’t stick their heads out, but they themselves are behind the armor plates. What to do? The unit commander contacts the UAV hovering high in the sky, he gives him a “battle picture”, the computer indicates the location of his shooters and which one is closest to the annoying tanks. He makes a shot with such a grenade, and it flies towards the enemy along a ballistic trajectory. As soon as his TV camera turns to the ground and shows the target, the UAV will transfer control of the grenade to either the shooter himself or his commander, who only needs to keep the crosshair of her screen on ... the back of the tower. A hit, an explosion, and both machine gunners lost their heads at once, and the tank immediately became practically unworkable.
Here it is - a grenade trigger ring. "Weapons in the most extreme case."
It is quite possible here and we are waiting for the question, but how about EMP? And what if this rifle “burns everything out” and there is nothing left for the soldier? It will be just this grenade launcher. True, you don’t shoot with a queue of him, but there are soldiers in the subunit with mechanical long-range rifles for sniper shooting. But on the other hand he has different power, and the number of shots is replaced by quality. So that a soldier will be able to use it for self-defense in those rare cases when electronics ... "let you down." Please note that in the breech of the grenade there is a ring. This is an ordinary trigger with a pin on the end. Pull it back with your finger to the limit, then let go - and the striker hits the primer in the back of the cartridge. The grenade is no longer programmed, but it will still explode from a strike if it hits the target. In this case, the fuse activates the cartridge lid, which the grenade pulls down when it leaves the barrel.
The bottom part of the grenade with holes for the exit of gases, a nest for the primer and ready protrusions for grooves inside the cartridge. The propellant powder charge can also be supplemented with a rocket powder engine, which will be launched at a distance of 10-15 m from the muzzle, so that the jet stream does not affect the arrow.
Moreover, it is quite possible to use this grenade launcher in the light mortar version: you rest it on the butt, put the cartridges into the barrel and pull the ring - that's all. And the required angle of inclination of the trunk and the direction in azimuth to you will again be prompted by a computer. Although in which case you can see for yourself!
For self-defense there is a special shrapnel shot. Also essentially a grenade, but only filled with steel balls or cubes, and exploding at some distance from the shooter. This distance can be established through an electronic unit, but if for some reason it does not work, then an undermining will occur, say, meters in 50, which is quite enough to keep the enemy away from a closer distance. However, all this must necessarily be established research, and so, at random, you can only make assumptions.
Butt and back antabka for a belt. In principle, nothing in this design does not interfere with planting both swivels on four screws and, if necessary, transfer them from one side to the other.
Today, much attention is paid to the convenience of handling weapons, that is, ergonomics, and in this regard, despite its angular appearance, the proposed rifle is notable for its increased usability. To begin with, it is essentially a “whale”, that is, a “assembly kit” that every soldier conducts for himself. As it has already been noted here, the handle of turning the valves works equally to the left and to the right, so it suits both left-handers and right-handers. Also, the left and right hand opens the cartridge lock and turns the gas cartridge during reloading.
Carefully look at this photo and compare it with previous ones. You will see that the control unit with the pistol grip on the 15 cm is shifted back. That is, it is not difficult to choose any arrangement of the controls of the rifle under the anthropometry of each shooter! People with short and long arms can easily “make” it just for themselves.
The electronic unit can be installed both on the left and on the right, and it is very important that this rifle has ... an adjustable pistol grip that moves back and forth along the block of barrels, back and forth, providing the soldier with maximum convenience for using the rifle. Yes, her stock is still, but the handle moves with the sight and electronic control unit. On the casing, covering the block of trunks from all sides, there are four screws with "sheep". He turned away, chose for himself the most convenient position of the handle relative to the butt, then turned them again and ... serve, do not wear! That is, the level of ergonomics in the rifle is really very high.
