The Avangard project on the way to combat duty

41
One of the main innovations for the Russian strategic missile forces is the promising Avangard complex, which includes a unique hypersonic guided combat unit. The newest complex has already passed all the main checks, and in the near future should go into service. Then begin the deployment of new systems in parts of the Strategic Missile Forces. Not so long ago it became known how exactly the complexes would look like on duty and when they would be able to contribute to the country's defense capability.

The soon adoption of the Avangard complex was officially announced in early June. Then, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the promising product will take over on duty in the next 2019 year. Recently, new information has appeared, according to which the order of acceptance for service may appear a little earlier, including before the end of the current year.

2 regiment and 12 missiles

October 29 TASS news agency has published new information about the planned deployment of promising complexes and events prior to its beginning. An unnamed source in the military-industrial complex also provided information about the carrier of new combat equipment and the need to conduct its checks before starting a new phase of service.

According to the source, the first Avangard products will be deployed as combat equipment of intercontinental ballistic missiles of a heavy class UR-100N UTTH. The latter have long been in service, and now it is proposed to use them as carriers of promising warheads. In accordance with existing standards, before the new stage of the service of missiles it is necessary to conduct a test launch. However, as the source noted, its implementation may be waived. The Avangard combat unit passed the necessary tests, and the UR-100N UTTH rocket proved itself as a reliable and proven system. In this regard, it is possible that the military will do without a control launch.

In accordance with the results of such tests - if they take place - a final decision will be taken on the adoption of the Avant-garde. An official document on this subject should appear at the end of 2018 or at the beginning of 2019. It should be recalled that in the middle of the year other terms were indicated - a little later.

According to TASS, the launch of new complexes on duty will start next year. The source indicated that the end of 2019 of the year had been appointed as the due date for the start of the first Avant-garde regiment duty. In this case, initially on duty there will be only two complexes of a new type. Later, their number will increase to normal. Total regiment will operate six missile systems.

It is reported that the current State Armaments Program, which is in force until 2027, provides for the re-equipment of two regiments from the composition of the strategic missile forces. Each of them will keep on duty on six "Vanguards". To solve this problem, the 12 of intercontinental missiles UR-100НТТХ will be sent to the restructuring and modernization. Each of them will receive a new hypersonic combat unit, after which it will return to the unit for placement in the silo launcher.

According to a TASS source, both regiments will be part of a missile division stationed in the Orenburg region. Apparently, we are talking about the 13 th missile Orenburg Red Banner Division from the 31 th missile army of the Strategic Missile Forces.

It is not excluded that in the future, new regiments equipped with Avangard complexes will appear in the rocket forces. Decisions on their formation will be made in the future, in accordance with the current situation and current threats. So far, the command plans to limit itself to only two regiments with 12 complexes on duty.

Year News

The latest news from an anonymous TASS source is of great interest. They reveal some details of the planned work, and in addition, seriously supplement the existing data. It should be recalled that until recently, very little was known about the Avangard project, and most of the information came from unofficial sources. This year, the situation has changed dramatically, and the promising complex has become one of the most discussed topics.

This year's first official announcement of a new weapons sounded on March 1 as part of the Presidential Address to the Federal Assembly. Then V. Putin spoke about the existence of a promising missile system equipped with a hypersonic maneuvering warhead. On the same day, the commander-in-chief of the Strategic Missile Forces, Colonel General Sergei Karakaev, specified that the Avangard complex had already completed all the necessary tests. This statement was a kind of confirmation of previous unofficial reports and rumors about conducting inspections of hypersonic weapons.

12 March, the new information on the Avangard project progress was revealed by Deputy Defense Minister Yury Borisov. He noted that the creation of new weapons was not easy, but the industry coped with the tasks. In particular, scientists and designers had to solve the problems of heating and controlling the device in flight. Successful tests confirmed the correctness of the approaches and solutions used. In addition, the deputy minister said that the military department signed a contract for the mass production of promising products.

7 June, during the "Direct Line", the President of Russia revealed new details of the ongoing work. According to him, the adoption of "Avant-garde" in service was planned for the next 2019 year.

On July 19, the Ministry of Defense recalled recent events and activities, and also provided answers to current questions. The official statement stated that the industry launched the process of mass production of Avangard products and will soon be able to transfer finished samples to the rocket forces. In addition, the Strategic Missile Forces have begun preparations for the future acceptance of new weapons. The complex of organizational and technical measures for the adoption of new weapons into operation was carried out at the facilities of the position area of the Dombarovsky unit of the Strategic Missile Forces.

In July, it was reported that experts conducted a geodesic and engineering training of the position area necessary for the deployment of new weapons. The construction of new facilities and the reconstruction of existing ones continued. The training of personnel, weapons and various equipment was also organized.

Also in mid-summer, the Ministry of Defense showed a video from tests of the missile complex. The published video showed preparations for the launch and the start of the flight of the rocket. In addition, he showed that the UR-100H UTTH rocket was used as the Avangard carrier during the tests.

According to recent Russian media reports, preparations for the deployment of Avangard missile systems are proceeding on schedule, or with some advance. Adoption can be expected not in 2019 year, as mentioned earlier, but at the end of 2018. Almost all of the next year will be spent on training a pair of silo launchers for the 13 th missile division and upgrading the UR-100N UTTH missiles for a new stage of operation.

Thus, in accordance with the well-known plans of the command, by the beginning of 2020 of the year, at least two Avangard complexes will be on duty in strategic rocket forces. Over the next few years, their number will increase by six times due to the equipping of the first regiment and the organization of the second. Plans for further periods remain unknown and, perhaps, have not yet been defined.

Carriers of the complex

According to the available data, the intercontinental ballistic missile UR-100N UTTH will become the carrier of the promising hypersonic Avangard combat unit. In standard equipment, this product has a starting mass of more than 105 tons and delivers 6 individual targeting warheads to a range of up to 10 thousand km. It is not known how the main combat characteristics and quality of the rocket should change after the replacement of regular combat units with Avangard. There is every reason to believe that the range of delivery of the warhead will increase significantly.

Unlike standard warheads falling on a target along a ballistic trajectory, the Avant-garde product is capable of planning a flight with control on the trajectory. Obviously, such a flight method in combination with hypersonic speed after separation from the carrier will allow the combat unit to independently travel considerable distances, and along an unpredictable route. It can be assumed that the Avangard will increase the range of existing missiles by several thousand kilometers.

Use as a carrier of the UR-100N UTTH rocket has a number of specific consequences. First of all, it is necessary to take into account that this ICBM is very old, and in the foreseeable future, the Strategic Missile Forces are going to abandon it because of moral and physical obsolescence. Thus, it may turn out that the planned 12 complexes of the UR-100H UTTH and Avant-garde complexes on duty will be the first and the last of its kind. In the future, the hypersonic weapon will need a new carrier.

For several years, the assumption of the possibility of installing the Avant-garde on a promising intercontinental RS-28 Sarmat rocket has been discussed. 1 March 2018 of the Year V.Putin indicated that the Sarmat ICBM can carry different combat equipment options, including hypersonic units. It was about the Avangard product, announced by the president a bit later. Any information about the future deployment of hypersonic weapons on the "Sarmats" is not yet available.

According to the Russian press, published a few days ago, mass production of the ICBR RS-28 starts in the 2021 year. At the same time, the first missiles of a new type are planned to be transferred to parts of the Strategic Missile Forces for loading into mine launchers for the purpose of organizing combat duty. In 2021, only two missiles as part of one of the regiments will take over duty. Later, the unit will bring the number of missiles on duty to the standard number of six units. Then will begin the rearmament of other parts and compounds of the Strategic Missile Forces.

In the recent past, in the context of the Avangard project, another model of advanced weapons with the code Bound was mentioned and discussed. It was a ballistic missile RS-26. According to the available data, it was an improved analogue of the PC-24 serial product “Yars” and in the future was supposed to complement it. Due to the lack of accurate data and some confusion with designations, the Boundary project was often identified with Avangard. Later, a version appeared about the possibility of installing a hypersonic warhead on a PC-26 rocket.

From the available data it follows that the system in the form of the PC-26 and Avangard would be a mobile ground-based missile system with an intercontinental firing range and special combat qualities achieved by the new combat equipment. However, the implementation of such a concept was abandoned. At the end of March of this year, it became known that the PC-26 project is not included in the new State Arms Program. Instead, the command plans to develop the Avangard complex in the mine version. Thus, the hypersonic aircraft lost one of the potential carriers.

Any data or even rumors about the possibility of creating new versions of the Avangard complex based on one or another carrier are not yet available. According to the available information, first the complex with the UR-100N UTTH rocket will go into service. Until 2027, the strategic missile forces will have two regiments with such systems on duty. It is also possible the emergence of a certain number of "Sarmats" with products "Avangard". Whether the latter will be used with other rockets is unknown.

Weapons of the future

Officials and unnamed press sources this year helped to form a fairly detailed picture of the situation around the avant-garde hypersonic combat unit and related systems. In particular, thanks to them, plans to deploy such weapons became known. This process starts next year and will continue for several years. The Strategic Missile Forces will not put on duty the largest number of new missiles, but their numbers will apparently meet current requirements. In the future, there may be a new decision on the addition of the Avangard group in one form or another.

It is expected that the special combat equipment of the new missile system will make it possible to drastically increase the speed and effectiveness of rocket attacks on targets of a potential enemy. At the same time, the growth of combat qualities, among other things, will be ensured by the impossibility of intercepting Avangard with existing anti-missile defenses. Thus, in the near future, our country will have a real weapon of the future, capable of responding to all current and future challenges.

It’s actually worse. google, the citizens of which countries are the children of Putin, Medvedev and other members of the Russian leadership, and everything will become clear. We doubt it very much. To date, the Kremlin's longest-lived galley slave is a disappointment. Behind the external rhetoric and the image of the "hero", apparently, there is a rather cowardly and overly cautious man in a case. Extremely insincere, with incomprehensible looks. A person who is devoted first of all to his benefactors, friends and, last of all, to the state interests. The people for him are the public in the circus. Who is constantly fooled by a provincial magician. Patriotic speeches, foul deeds. Has a political assessment been given to the Yeltsin period? No. Are the events of October 3-4 somehow objectified? No. Not even mentioned about them. The mausoleum is draped, the Soviet period is cursed. The oligarchic kagal lives and flourishes. You can go on for a long time. But when the prime minister disappears for a couple of weeks <to undergo blepharoplasty, when the president pumps his turnip with a giant amount of gel <that starts to compete with Matvienko, which of them is more beautiful <I have a question. Why is this? What is he thinking about?. He should not sleep at night, his face should be black and his hair gray. Think and work in the name of Russia. And not decorate your face.

Planning (i.e. in the amosphere?) At hypersonic speed? And for a long time he plans ... Until he burns out? Any warhead of any ICBM enters the atmosphere with the 1st cosmic velocity (i.e. faster than hypersound), but is forced to slow down so as not to burn out ... And maneuver = stand out from the cloud of false targets (which do not maneuver) = be distinguished by systems ABM and destroyed (while more in theory)

The trick is that the mattresses have learned quite well (as they try to convince everyone) to intercept the warheads with a direct hit of the kinetic warhead. The plus is that there is no plasma cloud from a nuclear explosion that blinds locators, and anti-missiles are cheaper.
But this feature only works with ballistic targets moving along a predictable trajectory. With the planning BB such a number will not work.
Although, I think that, when comrade Stalin will send us into battleif the chief commander calls in the last battle, then we will preventively crash several megaton high-altitude explosions, and you can take warm mattresses further.

Dear Cyril! You have a lot of blunders and very controversial statements in the article. Something doesn't look like you. Usually you more thoroughly go to the text. And here..
    So. A little analysis.

According to the source, the first Avangard products will be deployed as military equipment for heavy-class intercontinental ballistic missiles UR-100N UTTH.

Kirill! UR-100N UTTH missile NEVER BEEN A HEAVY CLASS Rocket. Read the strategic arms treaties. It says in black and white that a missile is considered to be a missile in which the starting or throwing weight is greater than that of the heaviest of light missiles. And such a standard is the UR-100N UTTH. If the starting or throwing weight is greater than her, then the rocket is considered heavy. But not UR-100N UTTH

The source indicated that the end of 2019 was set as the political deadline for the start of the first Vanguard’s regiment. At the same time, initially there will be only two complexes of a new type on duty. Later, their number will increase to full-time. In total, the regiment will operate six missile systems.

In fact, the regular number of light-class missile regiments is 10. The number 12 is not entirely clear. Yes, if as you wrote
According to a TASS source, both regiments will be part of the missile division deployed in the Orenburg region. Apparently, this is the 13th missile division of the Orenburg Red Banner Division from the 31st missile army of the Strategic Missile Forces.

then everything coincides. The regiments in this division consisted of exactly 6 silos. But here is one detail.
What is economically more profitable? Deepen the native silos 15P735 in the position area of the 60th division in Tatishchevo or completely rebuild silos from 15A18 missiles in the position area of the 13th division. Indeed, the UR-100N UTTX and the R-36M UTTX, the mines of which are most likely to use completely different launch methods. The first is gas-dynamic, when the rocket leaves the silos on its engines, the second - = mortar ... So the question arises. Which is more economical? Deploy them in the PR of the 60th division, where the regiments each have 10 silos, or in the PR of the 13th division, completely rebuilding the mines

It is possible that in the future new regiments equipped with Avangard complexes will appear in the missile forces.
This phrase of yours in the article is generally superfluous. It has long been announced that the Vanguards will be one of the options for the combat equipment of the Sarmatov

Everything will depend on the performance characteristics of "Vanguard. What will be the throw weight of this product. And only after that
we can say whether the range will increase and how much ...

I think that the discussion in the blogosphere of this option does not correspond to reality. The confusion, of course, was brought about by the initial designation of this missile, which at one time was voiced by Serdyukov, who called it "Vanguard". The name of the ROC was misled - "Avangard-R". But the fact is that there were and are more than two dozen ROCs named "Avangard"
In principle, Rubezh cannot be an improved analogue of Yars. An analogue is still something close. The boundary, judging by some indirect data, is a project based on the developments of the Yars complex. But it is not an analogue of this complex. In-1 - the rocket is much smaller than the Yars. Secondly, it is two-stage. And in-2 it is extremely unlikely that the throw-weight of this rocket will be sufficient for use on it by the Vanguard BO.
The version was about the possible installation on the "Rubezh" not of a classic-type MIRV with a dilution stage, but a MIRV in which each BB would be equipped with its own propulsion system ...

Nevertheless, they refused to implement such a concept. At the end of March this year, it became known that the RS-26 project was not included in the new State weapons program. Instead, the command plans to develop the Avangard complex in a mine performance. Thus, a hypersonic aircraft lost one of its potential carriers.

It was predictable. The characteristics of the missile, although it is an ICBM, would hardly interest the military. Most likely, the "refusal" is due to the fact that the military does not need it as an ICBM. This is most likely an overgrown MRBM. It is possible to return to the implementation of this project after the United States withdraws from the INF Treaty. Put on a heavier head, carry out a couple of tests with a new BO and go ...

Quasiballistic or what? But this is stupid. Starting along a quasi-ballistic trajectory leads to the fact that the range decreases by about a factor of three, and the casting weight changes (decreases) in approximately the same proportion, because the trajectory is very energy consuming. The only advantage in such a trajectory is that the block is detected much later. But in any case, I’m not very sure that with a quasi-ballistic trajectory with an apogee height of about 90 km, the block will be able to maneuver at speeds of 20M

      shipbuilding
USA: Currently, the shipbuilding industry has more than 250 large and medium-sized shipbuilding and ship repairing enterprises, of which about 130 are mainly engaged in shipbuilding. In total, the industry has about 260 slipways, about 50 construction and 100 repair dry docks.
and we have "legal proceedings and PR" & Liza Peskova with shipyards and "a bunch of boys"

At the moment, Peskov’s daughter speaks five languages: speaks fluent English and French, fluently speaks Turkish, Chinese and Arabic. By her age, Peskova managed to study at various educational institutions: a Moscow gymnasium, a boarding school in Normandy, the Ecole des Roches school in Paris and the Moscow Institute of Asia and Africa, where her father and grandfather once studied.

At the moment, US aviation and aircraft construction are the most powerful and developed in the world.
-American concern Boeing delivered to customers 763 aircraft in 2017,
-In 2017, Sukhoi Civil Aircraft (GSS) released 34 Russian regional SSJ 100 aircraft. This is almost 55% more than in 2016.

As in that joke about the Strategic Missile Forces:

      this is a joke
As of October 1, 2016, there are 1367 nuclear warheads for 6 in the US strategic nuclear forces81 deployed strategic carriers, 848 deployed and non-deployed carriers
As of February 5, 2018, on the basis of an official statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and an assessment by a group of international experts (based on data provided as part of the exchange under START III [1]), Russia’s strategic nuclear forces include 527 deployed strategic nuclear weapons carriers - intercontinental ballistic missiles, submarine ballistic missiles and heavy bombersequipped with 1444 nuclear warheads. At the same time, the total number of carriers (deployed and non-deployed) of nuclear weapons is 779 units, which corresponds to the START III Treaty ..
There would be to deal with the United States, and you mumble about some, then Holland!
and there is, after all: England, France, probably Germany and certainly Israel, with its nuclear weapons

The trick is that almost 40 missiles were transferred by Ukraine to Russia for debts for gas in a preserved form, without fuel. Passed the check "Stilettos, the warranty period in my memory is up to 50 years for sure. On hundred parts (UR-100n) like and are going to place.

These mines have yet to be brought to technical readiness for more than one year. There is no grip. Civil contractors are striving to get a criminal case. With the construction of the Arctic objects, the matter is still ongoing. The accused are in the second year in custody.

And why not 500 mines. Or will I already get 1000? Why trifle and pay attention to the fact that on the territory of Russia such a number of UR-100N UTTX never developed ...

According to various sources, Ukraine transferred from 30 to 35 missiles. Most often, the number 31 sounds. The warranty period is until about 2030. And in which as you write

On weaving (UR-100n) it seems they are going to place it.

are they going to post? Mines from 100N have not been mentioned for a long time. All were either remade either into mines for 100N UTTKh, or into mines for RT-23UTTKh. Only mines from 100N UTTX survived

Vladimir, how can there be an estimate of 30 to 35 missiles under the existing (and pre-existing) control regime? The rocket is not zinc with cartridges, it is very difficult to "lose" it, to put it mildly.

In the strategic missile forces' warehouses there are 30 UR-100 ICBMs (received from Ukraine for debts), and why it is not clear that they form a division of 5 regiments (6 ICBMs each) ...
(under the START-3 treaty, Russia's "reserve" for deployed delivery vehicles is about 220 units)

The second division with the Avangard hypersonic warhead was planned on the basis of the Sarmat ICBM (4 regiments of 6 ICBMs, 24 units in total). Each "Sarmat" was supposed to carry 3-4 warheads.

Thus, by the years 25-27. The Strategic Missile Forces should have 102 -126 Avangard warheads, which will probably be sufficient for a preventive "non-nuclear" disarming strike on strategic targets of the "partners."

Time will show whether the Rubezh RS-26 project will be developed with the Avangard warhead ....

At the time of signing the START-1 Treaty in 1991, the Soviet Union had 300 UR-100N UTTH missiles, 130 of which were deployed in Ukraine, and the rest in Russia. After the collapse of the USSR, missiles located on the territory of Ukraine were declared its property. Accordingly, Ukraine is responsible for the elimination of the launchers of these missiles in accordance with the terms of the START-1 Treaty. All nuclear warheads of missiles located in Ukraine were exported to Russia. Russia also buys from Ukraine 32 UR-100N UTTX missiles, which were stored in the arsenal and never stood on alert.
There are currently 170 deployed missile launchers UR-100N UTTX in Russia, of which 10 are deactivated but not destroyed. Since the warranty period for the operation of missiles was extended in 1995 to 21 years, they can continue to be on combat duty at least until 2005. Some missiles deployed at the end of the 80s will be able to remain in service for a little longer. It is also possible that the warranty period for the operation of missiles can be extended to 25 years. drinks

It is necessary to change the UR-100 UTTH to the R-29RMU ... It’s cheap and cheerful .. Serial production is debugged, the stock of missiles is available ...
