Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a law introducing criminal liability for citizens of the "aggressor country" (Russians approx.) For illegally crossing the country's border, follows from a message posted on the website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
As follows from the new law adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine 18 of October this year, the illegal crossing of the Ukrainian border by a citizen of an aggressor country is punishable by imprisonment for up to 3 years. If such a citizen did not understand the first time and was caught for the second time or crossed the border by a group of persons, then he would face imprisonment from 3 to 5 years, and if he also weaponsthen from 5 to 8 years of imprisonment. At the same time, the law applies only to the Russians, i.e. citizens of the aggressor country, or other persons acting in the interests of the aggressor state. An illegal crossing is a border crossing outside checkpoints, without documents or with false documents.
Previously, for such an act, the legislation of Ukraine provided for a fine or administrative arrest up to 15 days, which will apply to citizens of other states not belonging to the aggressor state (this definition of Russia was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada in 2015 year).
The law comes into force from the moment of its publication in the official media of Kiev.
