The Russian airborne troops are eagerly awaiting the Sprut-SDM1 self-propelled anti-tank cannon, and are hoping to get it already in 2020, commander Andrei Serdyukov said.

Airborne forces expects "Octopus-SDM1" in the 2020 year, but so far only a divisional set

According to his statement, the state tests of the Sprut-SDM1 self-propelled anti-tank gun will begin in December of this year and will be held next year. According to the plans of the Russian military department, already in 2020, the new machine will begin to flow into the airborne units, where it is very much awaited. In accordance with the state program of armament of the Airborne Forces will receive a divisional set of new "Spruts".

As part of his working visit, Colonel-General Andrei Serdyukov checked the production of the Sprut-SDM1 self-propelled anti-tank guns for the Airborne Forces, visiting the Volgograd engineering company VgTZ. The commander of the Airborne Forces familiarized himself with the production capacity of the enterprise, examined samples of the Sprut-SDM1 self-propelled anti-tank guns and familiarized himself with the production cycle of the BMD-4M airborne combat vehicle.

The Sprut-SDM1 is intended for fire support of subunits, the fight against armored vehicles, the destruction of enemy strongholds and fortifications, military reconnaissance, and military escort. The machine is equipped with a 125 mm caliber cannon, a twin 7,62 mm caliber machine gun and a remotely controlled machine gun installation of the same caliber.

For the whole year they plan to pass state tests. It is even fast for modern high-tech equipment!

I would not call this a reason for joy, the SPTRK with the Kornet complex is better, in general, the weapons complex from the CAO according to the ROC "Compression" or the modernization of the 2S9 and "Robot" with the "Kornet" overlap all the tasks of support and AT reserve.

So this is a reason for joy for the most part for industry - finally managed to attach not a mouse, not a frog, but an unknown animal. smile
In the Airborne Forces, apparently, the illusions about parachute landing in future wars begin to evaporate - since Uncle Vasya’s troops began to form tank battalions on full-fledged MBTs. Because for the last half century paratroopers see parachutes only in exercises, and they have to go into battle on the ground.

Well, the Airborne Forces are light infantry. Landed and forward.
And all sorts of different equipment in Uncle Vasya’s troops was enough, light and heavy.

And why then have parachute-landing equipment in service? I emphasize - not an airmobile, which is loaded and unloaded at airfields - namely, it is landing on parachute platforms.
Why, then, all these dances around BMD and BTR-D, if the same army BMP-3 and BTR-82 fit into planes in the same way? Why do they need cardboard "Sprut" in the presence of the T-72B3?

And I still don’t remember about the presence of aircraft in the BTA ...

In wheeled BBMs, all other things being equal, mobility is equal to tracked. If the weather is bad, then the caterpillar move wins.
If there is a need to move equipment over long distances and there is no train nearby, then it is better to have MBT + wheeled tank conveyor.

Interestingly, do you imagine that the landing is jumping directly onto the battlefield? They jump only in training and exercises.

I can imagine how much manpower and resources must be spent to push through the front line into the area of dropping the "silt" carcass safe and sound, ensuring the suppression of air defense and air supremacy along the route and in the area. And along the way, ensure the isolation of the drop area from the enemy's reserves - so as not to repeat Arnhem.

No need to so primitively imagine the conduct of hostilities in modern conditions, now not 41-44 years.

Your fantasies may be. Learn the history of the use of airborne assaults for at least the last half century. Very surprised. And this is just that it is freely available. Yet even during the Second World War everything was not declassified. And there were thousands of airborne operations only in that war, all participating countries. Every year, all countries of the world only strengthen their airborne units, increase their numbers, firepower and mobility. In every war, in every conflict, airborne assault was used, is applied and will be used for a long time in its direct pre naznacheniyu.Po at least as long as teleporters not invent

Does this mean that you need to adopt a machine that is not capable of fighting the enemy’s MBT?

I’m very surprised. Because in all any significant conflicts over the past half century, our Airborne Forces have been used as elite motorized infantry. Maximum - landing landing technique. In the war on 08.08.08/XNUMX/XNUMX, Novorossiysk generally arrived at the theater of operations by rail.
And you can remember Afghanistan. In which 345 guards. PDP was not only rearmament in army equipment, but he also changed the state, bringing it closer to the land.

As a strengthening of the army? wink Because our airborne in every war, in every conflict over the past half century, they are mainly used in this way. No wonder they now have their MBT - so as not to beg for normal armor from the army. which they were supposed to strengthen in theory. smile
The Airborne Forces have long turned into an elite light motorized infantry. Which conducts parachute landing of equipment only during exercises, and in real conflicts unloads this equipment at the airfields closest to the front and dusts it on it to the front line. But at the same time, the Airborne Forces continue to order airborne parachute equipment - despite the fact that it is inferior in terms of performance characteristics to the army analogs transported by air in the same way.

I worked at one time in a closed research institute and I remember how each piece of iron was developed and tested for years, and now I have such wild impatience regarding the commissioning of new equipment! Paradox!

The need for this sample is in question. What tasks is he called upon to solve more efficiently than current models? In addition, it is clear that the circulation will be small - a couple of hundred units, which means that the cost price promises to be very high. No?

The division kit is only 18 BM.
PT function 125 mm high ballistic tank guns not the main one (saturation of the ATGM in the airborne forces is preferable for the Airborne Forces), - a self-propelled assault gun that supplements the arsenal of the Airborne Forces. The weapon can be very useful in assault and occupation n / a. "Gore" with armored and mechanical parts of the enemy Airborne Forces is contraindicated. Of course, the designation of the SPTP is very arbitrary and can only be implemented from ambushes, but not in open combat with MBT.
