According to his statement, the state tests of the Sprut-SDM1 self-propelled anti-tank gun will begin in December of this year and will be held next year. According to the plans of the Russian military department, already in 2020, the new machine will begin to flow into the airborne units, where it is very much awaited. In accordance with the state program of armament of the Airborne Forces will receive a divisional set of new "Spruts".
As part of his working visit, Colonel-General Andrei Serdyukov checked the production of the Sprut-SDM1 self-propelled anti-tank guns for the Airborne Forces, visiting the Volgograd engineering company VgTZ. The commander of the Airborne Forces familiarized himself with the production capacity of the enterprise, examined samples of the Sprut-SDM1 self-propelled anti-tank guns and familiarized himself with the production cycle of the BMD-4M airborne combat vehicle.
The Sprut-SDM1 is intended for fire support of subunits, the fight against armored vehicles, the destruction of enemy strongholds and fortifications, military reconnaissance, and military escort. The machine is equipped with a 125 mm caliber cannon, a twin 7,62 mm caliber machine gun and a remotely controlled machine gun installation of the same caliber.
